There are so many different perspectives to return to school based on any given family’s personal work and health situations, expectations for schooling and overall personal viewpoints.

As far as the remote learning thread within this discussion and your questions, Jellybean gave a thorough breakdown. To really paint a picture of the mindset of a lot of parents, this opinion piece that CBC has published today really puts the “between rock and hard place” choice that the Province has forced parents into in perspective along with potential consequences to the school system...

Kudos to the staff at earl oxford! The video looks good and the staff look ready. And excited, that will help the students. Thank you for sharing the video.

At a time when I’m sure there are a lot of nerves and questions, this does a real nice job of setting the tone for this week for those going back to in-school class.

No matter where I might stand personally on decisions made higher up the chain down the Trans Canada as it relates to our own direction as a family during everything that’s going on, there are a lot of parents and kids relying on best-possible setup at schools this week. It’s great to see teachers and staff being the pros that they are, stepping up and showing this kind of leadership when they’re needed the most. Good luck everyone!

So apparently remote learning is available here in the Brandon School Division? This is the first I heard of this today. So how were families supposed to prepare for this ahead of time. I know there was a survey sent out late last week, but there was no mention that remote learning was actually an option being offered.
Not very fair for families who completed opted out and went the homeschooling route already.

BSD included this in the survey they sent out toward the end of last week:
"Students are eligible who have Covid-related medical factors and have been medically advised that the student should not return to in-class learning."
and

"Students are eligible who have family members in the same household that have Covid-related medical factors and have been medically advised that the student should not return to in-class learning"

Advise speaking with your doctor and school's principal regarding options. Suspect that since they've said you can re-enter from homeschooling that there's a very good chance you aren't too late if your doctor assesses the need and it is accepted.

3/4 of my kids started today. We did not have staggered start as the school only has 1 class per grade anyway.

I asked my kids if anyone didn't come back this year - in one class of 24, everyone is back, in another of 21, one has left, but there's 1 new student so net the same (although 2 students were absent today, but should be there later this week), and in the third there's 1 child I know not coming this year, but 2 new ones for a net gain of +1.

I'm curious to know how full kids' classes are in other schools. Lots of people talking about not wanting to send their kids (myself i:ncluded), but ultimately most seem to have sent them anyway.
