I've been with Westman for years, but I've had MTS before and have used both whole home systems and broadband before. While Westman is my choice for a few reasons, BellMTS does have it's merits.
- compared to TIVO, the BellMTS whole home PVR is a breeze to learn and use. I had to teach an older lady tivo and it took around a month
- if reliable home phone is what your after, you likely can't beat good ole POTS. Granted, I'm not sure how this stands with fiber to home users.
This is not to say that cables phone isn't unreliable. It's to say that I've never had the landline go down due to EMTA updates. Not to mention, power failures (I'm not sure how much battery life the EMTAs have).
- in terms of internet, while both providers perform well where I live, I've seen other areas where Bell is hit and miss in terms of maintaining speed. Though Westman seems fairly stable 24/7 up to the 50 tier (80 fluctuates to much to be worth it for me), I've seen Bell all over the place on the 25 tier.
- when it comes to price, I think Westman is the way to go for broadband. I'm not sure about TV, but I suspect the prices won't be that different.
One thing that Bell does have is excellent promos. Often 24 months without a contract (you can thank Shaw in WPG for that!). But I've always liked Westman because, frankly, having a consumer co-operative as an ISP is not something that many places can boast. But again, this is just a me observation.
If nothing else, use the competition to your advantage. If one is causing you problems, port your number and switch. I've ported my 717 number out and back, then to Telus (because they had an awesome deal).
