Have noticed stores being open regular hours on weekends and longer hours on holidays. So when does family time come in. As not every one works Monday to Friday 9-5. I am talking average family mom dad and two kids of working age or even kids that have moved out and are working. How many families have the exact days off as say all four people having the same day off. I know things are totally different with the covid situation. We as a family enjoy our time when we can see or talk to each other. If and when things get back to normal and families can get together there will be a few of the family that will have to ask for days off so all the family can get together. Stores used to be closed for one day or even two days and people still lived without going to the store and had family time as in a whole day or days together not just a couple hours. I guess things are changing and the new normal is stores open seven days and some are 8 hours but some are open a lot longer. So how long before it’s 7 days a week and 24 hours a day.

This has been the “norm” for many years. I missed many family activities and holidays once I started working and especially when I worked in healthcare with shift work. Many others have/are in the same boat. It’s just how it is when you work. Unless you and all your family members work the exact same schedule, it’s bound to happen. Summers are a bit easier for us as that is when many of our family members take holidays and we try to get together then. Otherwise, it’s just hit and miss if we can all be off at the same time.  
 
People need to work to make a living and some people have multiple jobs so the opportunity to have more shifts available is good for some. Sure this might mean they miss out on some stuff but what can you do? Not everyone has the same lifestyle or priorities as you.  
 
Does it suck to miss out on some stuff? Yes of course! But it’s just a part of working and the downside to that.

There are many jobs that work weekends and holidays besides retail. Healthcare workers, restaurant workers, hotel workers etc. Extending store hours is not going to change families getting together more than many other jobs.  
I worked at a hotel for a few years and ended up working many holidays and missing out on or adjust times of getting together.

In a few years everything will be automated using AI and robotics so the stores won’t need to employ many staff.

.....sad that family time is virtually gone. Our work is going to be extending the Sunday hours, which before it was the one evening that we could count on to spend with family......the greed of companies are not taking into consideration families, they say they are family orientated but really they aren't......

If people are working 40 hours a week, still plenty of time for family.  
Family time doesn’t have to just happen on weekends. If it’s important, then you find time. We are a very busy family of 6, we still find time to have a family supper or watch a movie etc.

To those who feel family time on weekends or Sundays is more important to them than businesses being open give this some consideration. How much complaining would there be if gas stations closed so travel at those times was impossible, all professional sports that required staff were not allowed to operated during these hours. What about restaurants having to close so staff could spend time with their families, campgrounds would need to close so their staff could be with their families. The list goes on, truck drivers, hydro workers, police, hospitals, tow truck drivers, fireman, phone companies, internet companies and there are many more. I think it is very selfish of one to think they should not have to work during what they consider family time if they expect others to miss out on their family time working these hours to ensure they have a safe, comfortable and enjoyable life.

don't forget that people expect churches to be open on a Sunday, (vicars/ priests etc are working) zoos and other recreational facilities, such as provincial parks, ski hills etc.  
There will always be folks who want to work those odd shifts, be it weekends or nights.  
Not all religions have Sunday as a day of rest and if people are working weekends they will have days off in the week which can be nicer as attractions are usually less busy then.

If a group of 30 people can coordinate their schedules for a World of Warcraft raid, a family of 5 can sit down for dinner at least once a week.  
 
I don't find your concern valid. What's the statistic probability that every single person working a 40-hour week has schedules overlapping every day of the week? Just because STORES are open longer hours does not mean the individual worker is working those extra hours.
