In one month my spouse and I were both stopped 3 times driving the same vehicle separately. We are both the recipients of our first traffic tickets after between 40 and 50 years driving.  
We’ve just come off a very stressful year and a ticket in the first days of the new year was an awful feeling  
We are happy the police are out there looking after the city, but at the same time, the traffic policing right now it’s a bit much. Just a reminder to be careful out there, never been stopped once in Brandon in the past 20 years of living here...not worth disputing as difficult to argue the police point of view.

UMMM....if you got tickets then you must have been doing something wrong! We all have had a stressful year (don't get me started), and you don't have any idea of how stressful it is for the police right now. If you did something wrong, suck it up and pay the ticket. Maybe you were just lucky that you haven't gotten one before, or haven't caused someone else harm in the last 40-50 years of driving. PS-you never did mention what kind of ticket you got!

After 40-50 years of driving it’s fairly likely your driving skills have declined drastically, so don’t be annoyed with BPS. Good on BPS for keeping the roads safe. I’ve been ticketed once and deserved it fully. I’ve also been let off with a warning for a more minor offence. Generally if you’re ticketed you fully deserve it.

You weren't pulled over and ticketed because the police were bored. Good grief! It's about time we have some traffic policing in this city....something that has been sadly missing for years now.

I find that there’s very little policing of traffic in Brandon.  
We all regularly see cars driving down the middle of 18th or Victoria (taking up both lanes), running reds, no turn signals, etc.

Perhaps because of our impeccable driving records and the fact that they are out in full force, perhaps a warning would have sufficed.  
Also I had said 40 to 50 years but it’s actually 30 to 40 years.

I don't think you are giving us the whole story here.  
The BPS have licence plate readers and obviously your car was flagged for something outstanding !!  
And both of you being pulled over and ticketed hmmmm

What were the tickets for?

I want the police out there. We need the police out there. We need more police......unless they stop me and give me a ticket, then it's total B.S.  
 
Just remember, no one has ever died stealing a car stereo, hundreds if not thousands have been hurt, maimed, disfigured, and killed as a result of bad driving. Policing has become way more sophisticated now a days and bad driving is easier to catch. We just need more out there, or even better, citizens of Brandon need better driving habits. Rather than being critical of the police, maybe have a look at what your were charged with and don't do it again.

If I'm honest I have to admit that I never got a ticket for anything I didn't do. My complaint was always "They don't let you go with a warning anymore". After having 2 near death experiences on Hwy 10 South due to people texting or reading on their cellphones and swerving into my lane only to veer off just before a collision, I've done a 180. I wish police, even if only for a few months, would just come down hard and brutal on everyone. Including people driving dangerously slow on the highways and the semi's using the oncoming lanes to make right hand turns (Park ave east and Richmond). I realize that for the first 20 years of my driving life I was the guy I'm complaining about, and Karma sucks, but the combination of $1000 licence renewals and experience have made me realize that all the rules of the road need to be enforced fully. It worked for me I'm pretty sure it would work for most.

There is little policing that I have noticed. I’ve never got pulled over in Brandon and I’ve lived here 40 years, but I rarely give them reason to pull me over so there’s that...

So you were tagged in the first couple of days of the year and only started messaging here about it two months later? Is there more to this story that what we are seeing here?

All this in addition to people doing 60+ down Richmond/Victoria/Park E despite those streets being a marked 50 zone.

How are the police to know you have an "impeccable" driving record and why would you expect them to care? Your record certainly isn't impeccable anymore now is it? Perhaps judges should just toss out murder trials as the accused has never been in trouble before. Again, good grief! Now since you probably feel that YOU personally pay the police officer's salary make sure to pay your ticket on time.

more years that I care to admit but have only been "pulled over" once.  
Since I was polite and didn't argue the officer's POV he never wrote out a ticket.  
 
I'm grateful for the police and their traffic stops. Must have been an impaired driver last night on our block because the vehicle got hauled away by a tow truck.

Is a former police officer who helps people with their traffic violations...  
he just had my “failing to come to a full stop” ticket reduced to a reprimand.. no $ ..no demerits... just charged a fee depending on what he get accomplished with your ticket... I highly recommend him ..

Seems like a little sense of entitlement here. It doesn't matter if you have been driving for 50 years or 2 months.  
If you are breaking the rules your breaking the rules.  
If you feel that you are innocent then take them to court and beat them I have done that in the past. I was rightfully pulled over and fined but I had reasonings. I took it to court and beat it. If you deserved the ticket pay it and stop complaining. I'm guessing this is the latter! Would be interested in what the ticket was actually for.

Granted, traffic violations like texting, or speeding are equally dangerous as any other vehicle related incident. Anything from a -nick and a scratch, pouting to pay someone to fix it or yourself, to, -impaired driving causing death, these are all avoidable.  
Driving for some of us is as natural as putting on a coat so don't be mad when someone tells you to put it on, it may help in the long run. Doing the same thing over a long period of time will make anyone complacent,  
 
Its good to see BPS doing proper policing, like traffic for one, but hearing how they throw on a whack amount of charges on people that have no idea what someone else is involved with, then they make 'guilty plea deals' saying "Its all done and dealt with today if you plea guilty no jail maybe probation. Else that list of things we just laid out will stay, with living conditions." Till you do plead guilty or go to trial at the end of the acceptable wait time with the possibility of jail anyway, cause "Ya I guess I was there." Not how/why, and next time your "involved." Guilty, you were last time. ..or.. famously..  
Asking every single person they arrest for information or they're going to jail, "Help us arrest someone and we'll help with these charges you shouldn't even have in the first place,"  
(now the things you don't normally hear)  
 
Most addicts wanna stay high, stay out of jail to stay high, make up any lie (heavily abused stimulated drugs make great believable story tellers) and then they go out and make whatever they said true by setting up the next person normal citizen or forgotten soul, my point is if you broke a traffic law get a ticket, you do crime do your time. there would be allot less dangerous incidents if -every, -single, -person, they arrest wasn't out there all day, all night, running around making what they said "true"  
Clearly you did something wrong, Doubt they offered you a way to help with your ticket though. 'the good with the bad'

I think there need to be more cell phone tickets,  
every time I am at a light there seems to be someone one a cell phone. i have had one for 20 years and not once have I used it while driving. what can't wait 5 mins....  
 
And no it is not legal to use it on a red light!  
 
I actually got rear ended in a drive thru because the person was on his cell phone.

Is online .. google him ... he got my “failing to come to complete stop” while turning right on a red light ... downgraded to a reprimand... I deserved to get stopped because he was right .. I didn’t stop... but a warning and a check to see if I was not driving drunk probably would have suited the situation better.. police are humans with emotions... so they really decide if you get a ticket or not ... warnings are totally up too the officer ... I have witnessed one person get a warning for rolling threw a stop sign and five minutes later .. same stop sign... the next person got the ticket.. what made the difference??? Minor infractions are a good reason to pull someone over ... I get it .. so I don’t understand the discrepancy... I have gotten warnings ... in situations I should have gotten a ticket and caused a dangerous situation and tickets in situations where there was no danger to society...  
 
So .. my question is ... is there such a thing as “quotas” ... or higher than normal times of the year that law enforcement is out in force ??? And under pressure to “nail” as many law breakers as possible? Or could it be rookies just trying to show off for there superiors ... ????

I would say if you where stopped that many times in a short period of time, either something you are doing or something about your vehicle is drawing the attention of the police.  
Why have you not told us why you where stopped??  
I wish our local police would be stopping more vehicles. At one time having a light out would get you stopped and in most cases a written or verbal warning. Speeding, blowing a stop sign, failing to use turn signals, failure to dim headlites etc would get a ticket. Now all of that seems to be ignored.  
I am not in law enforcement, but I believe if the police where out and being seen, stopping people for driving offences, checking license and registration, even if no ticket was handed out, there would be a positive effect some some of our other issues.

of the article. RCMP stated that the driver of the car would have lost their life. School bus occupants probably would have done okay as a bus out weighs a car immensely. Thank goodness it all turned out okay.

I agree with all the good citizens that have commented on this topic. I, like them, am an impeccable driver and would never get a ticket in the 1st place but if I did I would smile ear to ear and thank the officer for their service
