People are allowed to be outside, the past two years of gotten golf memberships for the first time and go everynight now. Also have taken up running and am loving it!

I think that there is a lot of frustration in knowing that no matter what we do, new COVID cases will land in Canada today (and every day).

If by some miracle, every COVID virus in Canada died today and everyone recovered, it would start all over again tomorrow.

A perfect blue-sky world would have not a single case and nobody would every turn that down.... But if a case or two snuck in, it wouldn't get very far within the community if people follow the fundamentals and rules within their communities... distancing, masking, following rules on gatherings, etc etc. In the short-term, the issue isn't as much whether or not the virus is here so much as whether we're giving it a playground to ramp up its numbers and take over our medical system when it is here before we're vaccine numbers are where they need to be.

For that reason I've found the best approach is to:
-focus on what I can do to do my part in not creating vectors of spread unnecessarily. Still some definite tightening up needed, but I've personally noticed a real uptick in people taking this seriously again this week which is encouraging.
-focus on how vaccine numbers are ramping up and that getting those numbers to the herd immunity threshold is the way of protecting our community in a more sustainable way and working toward seeing eased restrictions

Both are in my control as part of the wider playbook that could have us in a place of potentially having a summer a lot closer to normal than it might seem in the middle of these particularly challenging weeks.

am curious can kids of diff ages and diff households play together outside ? Does the 5 people in a public gathering not apply to them as they are kids?

The letter of the law says that groups of 5 (same household or not) are allowed in public spaces. They are not permitted on private property (just household members and/ or designated person as per exemption rules).

The spirit of the law is to keep households from mixing too much. So in that regard, we should be minimizing socialization with people outside of our household.

We have told our kids that as long as they are on remote learning, they cannot play with the neighbourhood kids. They don't like it, but are wanting to get back in school for June if at all possible.

Perhaps I missed it, but Superstore did not appear to have anyone tracking the number of people in and out yesterday, seemed to be more crowded than one would expect if capacity is 10%.

I was at Dollarama last night and there was zero controls/ counting etc. Not even a notice on how many are allowed. Contrast that to Sobeys West, there's a big sign that states 56 people only and they force you to take a cart so they can keep track. I noticed Giant Tiger had a line, so they're tracking too.

Makes you re-evaluate where you want to spend your money, anyway.

Well I guess it’s time to call the Covid Enforcement Tip Line to report these establishments when you notice non-compliance with the health orders . Perhaps a hefty fine will get their attention. It is for the betterment of everyone for these stores to follow the guidelines. Won’t be shopping at these stores anytime soon if they don’t start adhering to the health orders. Why is it that so many people think they are entitled to do whatever they want and feel that they are above everybody else in this pandemic. It’s getting old people!!!

Was really surprised to see the sign on the door at the Nearly New store says maximum of 10 customers. That can’t possibly be 10% for that store.

Guidelines set out per sq ft of store just like all businesses in Manitoba and also meets Fire Regulations .
The formula starts with gross sq footage of the building deducts certain stationery items to get net sq ft

It’s called “ occupancy load” set out by Manitoba Fire Code
0.4 m2 of net floor space per occupant
So 10 people seems reasonable for that store, they would go by the occupancy load like any other store on their permit.

So for example , if you compare it to say Giant Tiger that has very crowded rows of merchandise and aisle very close to each other even though they appear to have a bigger store their “net” sq footage may be far less then a smaller place of business.

I always was under impression it was as simple as 10% max fire occupancy code. If max occupancy setout by fire was 100 the 10% was simply 10.

Superstore always has someone counting, they're just sometimes hidden when you walk in. Because people have accused them of not having people counting, I started checking and I've never seen them without someone counting, even when occupancy limits were 500. And I go in a lot.

Some smaller stores like dollarama don't have people counting late at night or early morning which makes sense because they'd never be over at that point in time. Remember having a counter is not required, it's just a good idea to make sure there's not too many people. Inside

Stores are not required to have the number of occupants up for any of you, some stores just do.

Small town Manitoba....5 houses around us break the "only household persons allowed " rule....also mask requirement seems to be not necessary when 2 people ride in a town owned vehicle and aren't 6 ft apart....do you report or suck it up....small towns suck it up because in case of emergency you may need those very neighbours to come to your aid....it's not all black and white....there is a whole different mentality between city living and small town living....just do what you can to keep you and yours safe and hopefully we can all come out the other side....

560 new cases of covid in Manitoba today and people are still moaning that they can’t visit, can’t socialize and whining about which vaccine they do or don’t want!
When are people going to understand the magnitude of the virus we are battling against?

560 cases in one day. We went from the best province about 4 weeks ago to the 2nd worst per 100,000 population. It's embarrassing and frustrating. I wish the the whiners/rule breakers would realize that it's them dragging this out. I'm so sick of it. I want to see my kids and grandkids
**Not saying all whiners are rule breakers.

Back in 1918 they wore masks and quarantined...and they didn't have tv, computers, phone etc. Some people are so entitled these days.

Unfortunately people aren’t going to understand the magnitude of the virus we are battling against until it actually affects someone in their family or in their social circle. They think that they are entitled and above everyone else and won’t get this virus . We will see how much they moan when they do get it and can’t leave the house because they are sick and all other household members have to quarantine as well and they can’t visit and socialize (something they shouldn’t be doing now anyways). Do they even think how they are going to feel when they get it and pass it along to a family member who doesn’t survive this virus? If everyone just did what is asked of them for a while longer the sooner we will be back to some kind of normalcy but I guess that is asking too much.

Tonight, I noticed an outdoor gym set up at a closed business. There was at least six people there without masks.

There were at least ten people playing basketball at a local school.

Kids can’t see their friends anymore but nothing seems to change for many others. It’s not like they’re trying to hide their get togethers either. It doesn’t make sense to me.

Talking about More than Groups of 5. The skate park on Princess Ave. there were tons of kids there at 5pm and they were not wearing masks. It's important for the kids to understand that it is serious as they are starting to get sick

As of yesterday, dollarama was counting as a few of us had to wait in line. Only 20 allowed in at the 18th street one

All of the stores are counting and I'm actually surprised the admin here allows posts naming businesses without proof to stand. Every store in town has had lineups and they're all counting. I've visited nearly every popular store in town and specifically checked.

Was pleasantly surprised the few businesses I went to today were counting again. What I was extremely disappointed with is the fact that people still don’t get that they don’t need to have their wife/husband or entire family by their side shopping at this time!! C’mon people use your heads!!! With very limited numbers allowed now I’d think common sense would be more common!! You’re taking up numbers and delaying the process of in & out quick!! We seriously need to go back to essentials only and be more strict on the one person per family!! Kids and a parent is completely understandable but do you really have to make it an entire family outing rite now??!!

Their sign says 23 people. Seems to be easy enough to remain at 6' in there.
I live close by as well as shop there. I worry more about the lineups there and at McDonalds. Lots of times people are not social distancing and occasionally are wearing their masks improperly or not at all.
I cut across McDonalds parking lot to go shop at Giant Tiger and the overwhelming majority of people lined up at the drive-through are not wearing masks. I worry about the folks working at the drive-through window.

Going through McDs you don’t need to wear your mask to order while in line up in your vehicle- you need to wear it at the window to pay and pick up .
So most of us put it on just after you place your order.

53 tickets issued in relation to gatherings at private residences or outdoors last week. When are people going to start doing what is asked of them.? Why do these offenders feel that they are entitled to continue to have indoor gatherings at their private residences? Wouldn’t we all like to get together for meals and visits just like before Covid . We aren’t though because we are doing what is asked of us unlike these self centered, self entitled, selfish people who continue to ignore these health orders and do whatever they want. Dr. Roussin is now saying he will take the necessary steps to ensure the public’s safety including a stay-at-home order if deemed necessary. I think this a warning for everyone to do what is asked of them or else... Is that what we really want? I would think not. Start following the health orders and do what is asked of you which are no gatherings in your private residence or on your private property. Maybe a call to the enforcement tip line would get your attention!!!

Businesses not enforcing masks?

Was anyone as shocked as I was that two grocery stores named in the Brandon Sun allow people to shop without masks? They advise them they have to wear a mask but allow them to enter, shop and check out without a mask. Where is their sense of obligation to keep their employees and us mask shoppers safe? This is disgusting. Why are they not refusing entry and calling the authorities to ticket the people that aren't wearing masks if they do not comply? If a person says they have a medical condition and can't prove it, they can go home and order their groceries for pickup if they don't want to wear a mask in the stores!

My wife works in a grocery store (not in Brandon) and they have been advised not to confront people that are difficult .
I disagree with this as I think that this puts the staff and others customers at risk.
To be honest I think that it is high time that the authorities and the police step up to properly enforce regulations and restrictions and stop putting that onus on businesses that have little authority apparently.
Mixed messaging and lack of enforcement from government has created problems throughout this pandemic and allowed irresponsible selfish people to break and bend the rules to suit themselves while putting others at risk.

So, when we find out that a large group of BPS officers are anti-mask and anti-mask, and choose not to enforce the rules, then what?
