This is posted for people who would like to promote improved cycling safety. In other words, not for those folx that are aggressive towards sharing our Brandon streets.  
I'm seeing a lot more people cycling in Brandon during the pandemic. It makes sense, I guess, because other distractions were reduced.  
Here is my invitation to you to comment. What can we do to improve the cycling infrastructure (summer + winter) in Brandon if we act as a collective?  
Perhaps, an organization already exist and I don't know about it.

The first thing should be introduction of a cycling proficiency and safety test and proper enforcement to ensure all road users follow the rules of the road and show courtesy and respect to each other . After that designated cycle lanes or paths would be a good addition to encourage more cycling. That would then require much more attention to snow and ice clearance in the winter.

Yes, I would support that cyclist are certified via some exam. Especially youngsters who aren't qualified as motorists. Regarding enforcement that you mention, l personally suggest equalization between car drivers and cyclists. Currently the road rules are stacked against the latter.

Absolutely. Enforcement must be equal for all road users.

How about mandatory lights at night for bicycles , beats me how someone can ride at night on streets with no lights

This gives me a chance to raise a concern I've had with Brandon drivers not following the rules of the road in order to be 'courtesy' to me. For example, at the corner of 20th and Victoria there is the traffic light for pedestrian use. The 20th side street has a stop sign. I've been on my bike, waiting at the stop sign, and had cars stop for me even though they had a green light! Breaking the law as a driver to be courtesy to a cyclist is appreciated but it is unsafe for everyone so please, just follow the law

But i agree. I almost hit someone the other night who was riding with no lights, no reflectors and dressed in dark clothing ,

When I was in elementary school they taught you bike riding rules of the road and you had to do a little test and stuff. I don’t think kids are taught that kind of stuff anymore. As well, drivers should learn bicycle etiquette as part of their drivers exam.

you might laugh at this one. I got my cycling training through cub scouts. Got my badge. LOL  
 
but still use the rules, signaling with arms etc. Also have to know these for motorcycle exam. Incase your lights fail.
