So my child has decided they wants to be adopted by my wife, her step mom! My child is a teenager and her biological mom is not in her life! No one can actually get ahold of the mom in over a year! What procedures do I have to go through to get my wife to adopt her? Any help would be grateful

I am a step father to a teenage daughter. We have not gone through the adoption process but our lawyer said that it is a simple process whether the other parent is involved or not in the child’s upbringing. I advise you to seek the help and advice of a good lawyer to guide you through the process.

Seems to show doubt in unconscious or at least some.  
 
Personally I think doing at 16 has no purpose.  
 
Obviously the child or almost adult loves the step mom and adoption papers won’t change that.  
 
Anger against mother seems more in line with the decision but what do I know.  
 
As a 16 year old can make all their own decisions. And the whole process takes time as you have to locate mother as she has rights or try over a period of time. The child will be 18 and an adult.  
 
Just a suggestion perhaps more discussions as a family. Counseling. Then Talk to legal professionals

Our lawyer told us that if I adopted my step daughter it would change nothing regarding her biological fathers rights or responsibilities especially as in our case he is an important part of her life. We chose not to proceed with my adoption of her as in our case there was really no need . This is why I suggested seeking a lawyers advice as they are best placed to guide a family in a positive and productive business manner.

I don’t know if I would go as far as to say, “adoption wouldn’t change anything”….I bet it would change something for the child and mean a great ton. We don’t get to pick our family but to have someone “pick” us to be a part of theirs, legally, that says something! It’s not just a piece of paper to all of them
