We went from $240 hydro bill last month to $1,370 this month. We sent out the reading to Manitoba Hydro and this is the amount owed. We're looking through the bill to see if it is a mistake on our part or what. Has anyone seen a higher hydro bill this month?

Ours was similar. Yikes, that’s a big jump!

Neighbor had a similar problem. She phoned Hydro and they came out and there was a problem with her metre.

Mine is a bit down then usual. I guess I live in an apartment so it would be a bit different in my case.

Pay close attention to the meter dials, I had this happen a few months ago, the first dial on mine looked to be about 15% into the 2 position making it seem like it was like 2900 cubic meters but it was really at 1900 based on the rotation of the previous dial.  
 
The meter reader saw a 2 when they read it and once I got the astronomical bill I looked at it closely and came away seeing a 2, the hydro helpdesk person had me send clear picture of the meter and they confirmed it was reading 1900 and adjusted bill within 24 hours.

and don't look at the amount owed. Check for the amount of consumption and compare that to other winter month bills. If the consumption for you last bill is way off then you might have to call Hydro

I 99% of the time don’t do estimate on my hydro bill…. The 2 times I’ve done it (didn’t submit in time) my bill was MUCH higher. My bill is average $200/month. Somehow each time they estimate it is 600$….. happened to me again this month…. Just get your meter reading and call in. They will adjust if it’s off ….

That is why you need to go on equal payment plan - EPP

Do you still need to check your meter with an EPP?

Ours went from a normal $450.00 to $1078.00. When you call hydro they want you to pay an electrician to inspect your property before they send anyone out.

always cover your assets by checking yourself in everything you do in life. machines and people make mistakes.

Next time if you can, take a reading and a picture if there are problems with billing as proof!
