Came across this sign showing a new commercial development moving into the old Greyhound Depot on 6th St. Has anyone heard anything about this?

I believe the new owners will be making an official announcement very soon, so stay tuned.  
 
This is just the beginning, folks! Some other big, and somewhat related news is also on the horizon for Brandon.  
 
Certainly brighter days ahead for the City, for sure!

Heard that quite frequently lately. Same could be said of the plans for the Town Centre, old Barney's site, old Brandon Sun building and plenty of other locations in Brandon. So I'm guessing your "stay tuned" could result in another few months then? There is absolutely nothing on internet that a google search could find on this project.

There was also supposed to be quite a bit of development on the Sobeys West End parking lot that never happened. Things change from one day to the next so I don’t get my hopes up anymore I believe it when I see it. Money is tight and you have to make a lot of it to pay for projects down the road. We’ll see I guess.

A friend of mine had seen the building plans for a new Arby’s for Brandon, and was told project start date was “any week now”. That was four years ago.

also why bring in more pizza and burger joint places? we have enough.. bring something different and different ethnic fast food options.  
 
we need more cheaper grocery options. like save on foods, no frills, freshco. Thats what counts right now.

Does anyone know what this is actually going to be cause the sign/drawing says "VLT Lounge" on the building?  
 
Is there not already a "gaming room" of some sort being built up on the hill just off 18th (behind the newer gas station) , does Brandon need more of that?

This is more than concept or plans. What I am talking about has contractors in place and physical architectural plans have been drawn.  
 
Trust me, there is more to this, and another very interesting development planned that will be very unique.

This sounds promising! Hopefully this will work out in the long run downtown.  
 
I always thought the city could use the old greyhound station for 24hr homeless shelter... the kitchen would be used. Then where buses unloaded and load could be used for those that prefer to sleep outside in any weather but be safe as well. Alot of beds inside for nights. Then either the old package pick up could be small apartments for those that are homeless due to being on no rent lists etc or having small shipping containers in South parking lot with small apartment type places as well.

City never owned the old Greyhound bus station.

It should be noted that the sign indicates the involvement of a first nations group being part of or the sole owner of the land and building . Suggest there may be a possibility of a urban reserve could be part of the development. With the city allowing and working with other reserves with the gas bar on 18th street north hill there could be room for another . Time will tell .

I know that Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation are located just north of Swan in Birch River. I’m guessing the bus terminal would be for their Mahihkan Bus Lines which operates out of The Pas. They already make regular trips down to Winnipeg from Flin Flon.

Well, one thing is that most of the restaurant chains all serve the same type of food most of it deep-fried. Would be nice to see a bbq/smoked meat sit down restaurant. It’s basically a farming community so what better than meat and potatoes.

But the city should have looked into purchasing it as we only have safe and warm and max capacity is 41 people and at last reported we have 640+ homeless in brandon and the current mayor is heavily involved in helping the shelter and the people

I don’t think this is what ‘Whaz Up’ was talking about a handful of posts above, but another downtown piece coming together…

I'm so glad that it was sold and not just left empty to deteriorate like many old building have over the years. I love that firehall - it is a beautiful building. Visited it when I was a kid and have great memories (and a photo) of myself, my brother and my cousin with the Dalmation!

Was downtown today and there were crews in there working on the firehall.

You're right, he didn't use the word resort (he said development).  
 
I was just curious about the purpose of a bus station in a province without inter-provincial (intera-provincial?) bus service.

It's a good question. I would theorize that if it's an Indigenous-driven development, a significant portion of their population lives not in urban areas. Perhaps it's for people coming from rural or northern areas for different reasons (medical care, school etc) that Brandon is already a hub for?

If its Mahihkan Bus Lines, here's a little more on them... not just passenger but freight to quite a few locations in MB. Not sure the nature of each location, but Brandon would make sense to add to that list:

Glad to hear that the site will be in use again. Such a beautiful building. I hope the new owners are successful. I am little disappointed however that it won’t be a restaurant and event venue similar to the Prairie Firehouse a few years back. Seems a shame to only have the building available for events and not public dining/socializing. Oh well, still nice to see it being used.
