Has anyone ever seen before the crazy amount of potholes on almost every steet. I know was a crazy winter of thaw and freeze. I am not sure if the city will ever get to fixing the roads.

18th seems to be the worst but that is under Provincial jurisdiction. Maybe when all the MLAs come to Brandon for Winter Fair they will notice the sad state of their roads and do something

It's literally impossible to avoid the holes. Saw a vehicle yesterday with the tire blown off the rim. I find I'm driving out of my way to save my car.

Our road are embarrassing and deplorable.

Some of our roads are so bad that you could probably sit in a good amount of the potholes… There’s a couple you could probably lay down in easily

It’s too early for even cold patching, possibly be the end of May before any lasting repairs are started . . .

Does the city get funding from the province for 18th street? Man the amount of people getting tossed around in their vehicles is crazy. You would think you would’ve seen a post or something in the paper saying what their plans are, 10% hike something better be done! Maybe the best option would be just have a semi start dumping sand down on these streets would be a lot better lol

Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation is mandated to repair, plow, etc. these streets in Brandon:

- PR 457, from 1st Street, easterly:  
- PR 459, from 18th Street, westerly: and  
- various service roads along PTH 1 and PTH 10.

I like many people drive 18th street multiple times a day. Some places you can avoid the potholes but in some all you can do is slow down to about 20 and hope you don’t do damage to your car. 18th and Park is so bad that traffic at 5pm will be at a crawl all the way back to Victoria because of how slow people need to drive through the intersection.  
 
I get that it’s the provinces responsibility and not the city, but why is the city not BEGGING the province to come in and fix their roads? It’s embarrassing.  
 
Why do our vehicles have to be safe for the roads if our roads don’t have to be safe for our vehicles??

Clearly when they try and fix these horrible roads they aren’t doing it right! It’s the same every spring. I drove through some small towns in North Dakota last week and not one pothole to be seen. Same weather conditions so what’s the problem here?

I was driving on 18th. Yes, there are potholes. My vehicle handles rough terrain easily, but I do slow down to avoid pounding into the biggest deepest holes.  
 
Here's the thing. I found by watching carefully I could avoid most, nearly all, of the potholes. One group of drivers was going slower, avoiding the potholes, going through carefully if they did hit one. Then there was a group of drivers speeding right along, pounding through the potholes. If you can't slow down a little, don't complain when you bend a rim or blow a tire.

I will do everything I possibly can to avoid travelling on 18 th street even if I have to take back alleys. Other streets are really bad as well, but not as bad as 18th. Nobody’s gonna pay for my front end alignment or my tires, so I’ll just avoid that mess.

Some streets are provincial responsibility but I did hear someplace that there was a contract with the city to cover some the province was behind on. Not sure if that is still in place.  
This problem will linger or get worse before it gets better. The .14 you are saving at the pumps went to fixing roads. 100 million out of the infrastructure budget. Where will they make that money up or will the roads just stay a mess and NDP will say sorry no money. What happens if the .14 isn't reinstated???  
Our roads are an embarassment. No new business is going to open here with these conditions.  
Call you MLA, call your city councellor.

PLEASE FIX THE ROADS!!

Maybe a protest down 18th on a Saturday would work?  
 
Protests are allowed for everything else in this country!  
 
Shut 18th down for the whole day, then maybe the business's that are on 18th will join in with the protest!

Lost mine, as I will go over to 1st Street and go to Coral Center and give those stores my business. Sorry stores on 18th you have lost my business.

North Dakota like many other states build their roads to withstand military use. They don’t use cheap asphalt. I believe they use concrete. We need to fix roads every damn year. If we would just eat the cost of concrete for the roads, we wouldn’t need to fix as often and would end up having the same cost as fixing the damn roads every year for 5 years straight. But nobody ever said government is smart

Sad thing is they’ll put down nice fresh pavement and a year later dig a bunch up to fix sewer and water.

If your councillor is anything like mine and the issue we’re having, you’ll get no response.

Over paid because they do not help with any problem I have ever contacted about let alone return calls

I see we have a lot of asphalt repair experts here, so I don't need to remind anyone that repairing asphalt during wet or near zero temperatures is a huge waste of time and money, right?

Away in Ontario for two weeks so I missed the big snowfall and resulting thaw. While stopped at the light at the intersection of Park and First Street last night it reminded me of a scene from an apocalyptic movie. Craters everywhere, purple lights and flashing lights. What a mess! I’ve called Brandon home for 27 years and I don’t remember the streets ever being this bad. It’s so sad to see.

I agree....I've never seen the streets in Brandon so bad.  
18th Street was #2 in CAA's Top 10 Worst Roads in Manitoba for 2023 and the Province did nothing. Hopefully, it will be addressed this year!  
 
It seemed like the City had a bigger budget for sanding than snow removal this winter?? With little to no snow removal done by the City this winter the freeze thaw cycle has left a mess of potholes throughout the city.

Bad for residents but next week we get guests. How embarrassing to the Royal MB Winter Fair since pretty much everyone will go down 18th. I would be very worried about trailering world class jumping horses over those potholes.

I get the previous government did absolutely nothing for the highways that come through Brandon, but stop passing the buck. The city seems to be saying it’s a government issue, well maybe it is, but the NDP just came into government. Wouldn’t the City want to work with them to get these matters worked on ASAP? Stop the Bureaucratic BS and get the job done

Cant get in to businesses ( ex Giant Tiger ).  
 
Cant get down side streets.  
 
And for those suggesting going slow, not everyone has the time to linger around going 30 km per hour. And why should we have to?  
 
How will all of these roads get fixed?? They won’t.  
 
This is CANADA — perhaps the COB needs to get familiarize themselves with up-to-date strategies to prevent roads from disintegrating in a country where harsh winters are a REALITY.  
Just embarrassing.

If we want something done would it make sense to send repair bills to the city or province to fix our vehicles so they remain safe to drive on the roads that are unsafe to be on, I know that the bills wouldn’t be paid but might bring attention to the damage the roads are doing

I see that the city has been doing a great job fixing potholes. Out even Sat and Sun. It is the temporary filler but it is good to see!!!

3 miles of 18th street potholes and people don't have time to slow down to 30? Give your head a shake. You would rather spend your time sitting there somewhere waiting for your ruined wheel to get replaced? Got news for you, the cars going 50 or 60 and bouncing through the potholes pretty much got to the same red-light as the cars going 30. They didn't gain a thing over the slower traffic.

It is too bad that the province do not feel it is in any hurray to fix 18th street. City needs to put pressure on them or will never likely show up.

What a bunch of impatient harsh complainers you are.  
This past winter has been one of the worse for roadways getting damaged.  
Intelliegent people have been working on solutions for many years. If you complainers expermented along with the researhers unstead of just mouthing off we al may get somewhere.  
There is very little benefit to a temp fix that just gets knocked out again within 24 hours. The roadways need to dry up before good fixes can be done.  
There is a lot more to maintaining a city than just filling is potholes.
