I was out walking today minding my business and some idiot yelled at me from their vehicle. I couldn’t make out everything they said, but I did catch the word ‘fagg*t’ (thank you, jackass, for the kind words! I’m not even gay). People yelling at me from their vehicles seems to happen about one in ten times that I walk a distance of at least 3 km and, for whatever reason, it usually happens on Victoria.  
 
Is this a Brandon thing? A new generation thing? I don’t get it. I’ve never experienced this in Winnipeg or anywhere outside of Brandon and the people seem to always be between the ages of 16-25.  
 
I’m not sure if they choose to yell at me because of my appearance (I’m a bit geeky looking but not ugly), because of my walk (which, apparently, is a bit odd), because I look depressed (health issues have taken a huge toll on me in the last year and a half) or if I’m just some random target.  
 
Does anyone else experience this when walking in Brandon?

You're not the only one..I have it happen to me on a regular basis when I go for my walks. Some people just don't know what brains are and how to use them. I just ignore them and keep walking. I know it may be hard to but" if you put wood in the fire it makes it burn hotter." I just note the license plate and stop by the police station on the way home.

Yelling at people out of a car window is incredibly immature... but to go to the police over someone yelling out of the car window?  
Are they threatening you? Throwing things at you?  
Harming you in any way other than name calling?

I was advised by my cousin who is a cop. Report the plate if you can get it and that is a proper legal course of action. AND yes they threw a beer can at me several times!

I’ve gone running a few times and never had this happen, although would be funny if it did, but if I caught them wouldn’t be so funny for them!!

I am guilty of yelling at idiot cyclists cycling on the wrong side of the street, Its been tempting to yell at the people who using the mobility scooters on the street too especially if they are not wearing reflective clothing.

Several implies more than twice. So on three or more occasions people drove past you, yelled AND threw beer cans?? Or am I reading this wrong…”they threw a beer can at me several times”…meaning this was one incident where someone drove past you, yelled and threw a beer can at you several times?? Like did they stop, retrieve the can and drive past to throw it again? Twice??  
In either case you must be exaggerating. Or we have a huge problem with beer can hurling hoodlums in town…

On more than one occasion someone has driven past and thrown a beer can in my direction when I have been out for a walk and they yelling things that only imbeciles would. Is that clear enough for you to understand?  
I am not going to comment any further...wait till you get nailed in the head and see what you would feel and do.  
The subject of this thread was if anyone else has gone through being yelled at...I answered it.

I had the exact same thing happen to me when walking down 18th Street (between Victoria and Louise) several years ago. Called all kinds of swears just for walking down the street. I gave them the finger. The group of 4 teen males quickly turned onto Louise, got out and started screaming at me “what are you going to do, call the cops?” While still pushing and punching me: I should have called the cops but they were gone in no time.

Key word is "likely"

There is no common decency any more. If everyone went about their own business, and actually treated people like they would like to be treated, with kindness and respect, the world would be a better place. Why does it matter if someone looks, walks, sounds, or dresses differently??? Seriously??!! That is what makes us all unique! Calling people names just says something about the bully not the victims. They obviously have no idea what an impact this has on some people. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE GOING THROUGH, JUST BE KIND OR MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!There used to be a saying…”if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all!”
