Does anyone know when construction on the 18th Street & Braecrest Drive Traffic Circle will start?

there is no traffic circle that will ever be there. that would be absolutely pointless considering it is an 8 lane intersection as is. i have not a single clue where you got this info from.

think a circle would be the priority for the current government that is putting Manitobans deeper in debt! The repairs on 18 th should be the focus. A bloody disgrace.

The information came from here. There has been discussion (and not just on ebrandon!) concerning putting a round about or traffic circle at 18th & Braecrest Drive.

Proposed means they are thinking of using it, but I don’t think a traffic circle will help that area. Lights maybe but it’s in a transitional area of speed maybe they should lower the speed to 50 sooner.

Maybe the City Councillor for that area would like to comment on this topic.

So the above posters who are indicating that a round-about at Braecrest is not to be built, or is not going to work are wrong, uninformed and ignorant.  
 
I have spoken recently and directly with the Strategic Infrastructure /Traffic and Transportation Planner for the City of Brandon the round-about is very much the plan for that intersection. The Province of Manitoba and the City of Brandon are working on moving this project to the construction phase. The ‘Final Functional Design Report’ (2019) is literally within the brandon.ca website.  
 
How could a round-about not be an excellent solution for that intersection?! It will keep traffic flowing - in all directions - and make it easier for those wanting to enter 18th from Braecrest much more safe and quick.  
 
And now, all people need to do to drive in a round-about properly is to NOT signal when entering, and TO signal when EXITING so that those awaiting entry to the circle KNOW YOUR INTENTIONS.

The reason it’s a bad idea is wait and see how many tractor trailer units spin out and get stuck in snow and ice conditions when having to slow down to maneuver around it when trying to crest the hill. Common sense!

Bethechangeyouwant are those experts the same ones that built first and pacific? Or 18th and pacific cuz those aren’t well planned. Is the expert the same one telling people how to “fix” the road on 8th st north? Because I feel like those “experts” got their degrees in a warm climate without major weather changes or a cracker box. Instead of telling someone to drive that area how about sit by those corners and see all the heavy equipment that goes through and you will see how stuck they will get, how badly traffic will flow, and saying that you don’t signal to go in is wrong according to CAA.

Trust in me, this would be a waste of taxpayer's money and time, and would only lead to worse traffic flow than there is. Considering all the heavy equipment as well I could imagine they would have a heck of a time manuevering around it. We need fixes to our residential roads first and foremost before we focus on traffic flow.

At 18th and Braecrest-stupidest idea ever, for the reason mentioned above.

Or adding having 3 lanes might be as good an option going forward , ?  
 
More possibility of turning onto a lane if on coming veichles see ur intentions and can mover over ,

Government should be the house for sale on the corner and use that land to work something out. Even make Braecrest turn and connect with the service road going north. There are lights up there already

Best idea yet. Much better idea than building a traffic circle on the crest of a hill!!  
Slowing semis down to 30kph just as they get to top of hill sounds ridiculous!

Here is 400 plus page report on a number of intersections upgrades on page 414 it has 18th and braecrest. The report show a lot of community engagement was done to hear peoples thoughts. Suggest the detail of the report and suggestions was done by highly qualified engineers. Not saying it could be done a number of ways .

This isn't very complicated why a roundabout simply won't work at 18th st and Braecrest as others pointed out. As is it currently is, Mockingbird Dr. gets fairly congested especially around the lunch hour and 5pm so having Quail Ridge Drive so it goes onto Mockingbird isn't a great solution either.  
 
What can be done which would make a lot more sense is to widen and connect Clare Ave. so traffic can go from 18th st to 1st st. In the meantime, we need to have it so there is no left turns or traffic going straight on Braecrest at the intersection of 18th st. This is the safest solution to another bad design flaw which the city and province are equally at fault of creating.

I work at Kelleher Ford. That whole area is really congested around the lunch hour and at 5pm. There are usually over 30 vehicles around that area trying to get off Mockingbird so they can turn left onto 18th st at the times I mention. Plus there are the crew from Foundation Tire et al who try to get onto 18th st at the same time.

The construction of this is planned for next couple of months . on top of that there will be a development of 4 or 6 multilevel apartment to the west of that intersection or east of the Kulbergs warehouse off 18th st north

Thank you for the links. I’m glad those lights will be utilized by probably north bound traffic on Quail Ridge drive. You might see more congestion for Kelleher staff

Further to the development of a traffic circle on 18th and Braecrest Drive, more pedestrian crossings are needed. Currently there are 2 at the east end. There are many new apartment buildings along Braecrest. Apollo Heights has 6 - 16 unit apartments. I see people walking on the north side of Braecrest frequently. I watch children trying to cross Braecrest in areas where there are no crosswalks (Lark Street). Also several new apartments on Lark and east of Leech Printing. With these new developments being built, this increase traffic flow considerably as well as pedestrian traffic.

If anyone thinks that having heavy truck trailers stopped at a red light is better than slowly going around a traffic circle is misinformed. Having trucks stop on any sort of slope is a recipe for disaster. Lights will NEVER be the option for any sort of traffic control at the intersection of Braecrest Avenue and 18th Street...even when conditions are perfect.  
 
Traffic circles have been used widely, with great success in many Cities across Canada. Halifax, Victoria, Chilliwack, Regina and Portage La Prairie to name a few.

Is anyone in charge under the impression that a highway truck and trailer heading north will never have to stop before entering the traffic circle on an icy day?

That hill gets the salt poured on it during icy weather. Hopefully it will work.

For those that may have missed it after reading the 400 page report is say " Further study is needed to confirm the feasibility and functionality of a roundabout at this location. "  
 
Many of the other issues that have been brought up on pedestrian traffic has also been mentioned in the reports. With there being a lot of change in the north hill / Braecrest Drive area since the report in 2019 the need is not going away . Keep in mind that this is a Manitoba Provincial highway and these reports are done by the city .  
 
Like many other infrastructure projects they come with a price tag that needs to be paid with existing funds or taxes. It should be noted that any new development of housing commercial building have to pay money in to a account to support paying for these roads , sidewalks ect. This includes new developments off of 26th and Patricia .Maybe it is time for someone to ask were the funds are and when these plans are going to be put in place to support these development in the Hill and elsewhere .
