Who’s got the power?

In the Brandon Sun edition October 3rd, James O'Connor outlines for us his list of most powerful indivdiuals in Brandon. Although the list included a great number of exceptional individuals making noteable contributions to our community. The one point I would like to make is for a individual to be worthy of the list they must have attached to them money, power or status. Although the list did include a couple of exceptions to that rule for the most part the above is true. I was wondering if perhaps the media would like to refocus some of this attention to those who work tirelessly in this community for less pay, less status and less recognition. Those who work for non profits helping the vulnerable, disabled and less forunate in our community. So many names come to mind. So many good deeds and long hours of committment. No these people are not running high profit businesses, running in politics or even in positions of so called high power. They are indeed the backbone of what makes a community livable, safe and proud. Perhaps a page in our paper could be dedicated to those individuals and maybe those should not be ranked but on a level playing field , selected by their peers and community at large. All things being equal those people on that list may someday find themselves on the other side of the fence and we all know that life is unpredictable and uncertain. I just want credit given where it is due.
