frustraition with voting
10/15/2008 at 2:05 PM
I couldn't believe how much the people at the voting station we went to didn't know? it was so frustraiting. you were fine if you had a drivers liceance, but I did not. So I took other id (proper ID that was listed as acceptable on the website, health card and a hydro bill) and was told that I couldn't vote without photo ID. I had to argue with the guy for a while saying that no you don't need photo ID there are other forms of ID that are acceptable. Finally was directed to just go talk to another guy about it. Who also told me I couldn't vote because I had no photo ID, so had the same argument with him, and said no that the elections canada website had listed other forms of ID as acceptable so finally he reads the pamphlet from elections canada and realizes that yes, that is enough ID for me to vote. But seriously I wonder how many people walked away because they were told they couldn't vote by these two guys who didn't have a clue about it? You'd think if they were going to get people to run these stations give them proper training on how to do it? I got there at just after 6 yesterday afternoon, and I know when I was there one guy did leave with out voting because he was told he didn't have the proper id to vote.
