The firehall's $11 million price tag

I just finished watching the linked CKX story below. They talk about the firehall issue being touched on at Monday's council meeting and show that there is some concern over the $11 millon cost to build the proposed new firehall.
Going by the interviews, Bob Mazer is one of the more vocal opponents. It appears Ed would like to see the city get as good of a deal as possible to hopefully trim that cost in light of all of the other expenses the city is facing. One of the areas that it's suggested could be addressed is the size of the new building, which is to be 5% larger than the current firehall that it will be replacing.
Mayor Burgess essentially says that we want to do it right this time rather than cut corners.
Where do folks on here fall? Do you feel that some aspects of quality should be sacrificed to get the cost down, or should this be done as currently proposed?
