Taxi drivers help nab impaired driving/accident suspect

From this morning's BPS releases, a story that can serve as a reminder that you may have to worry about being apprehended by more than just police if you find yourself in a situation like the one described.....

At about 3:00 AM this morning, an area resident reported that a vehicle had knocked down a light standard in the area of the 400 block of 26th Street. The suspect vehicle had actually collided with a taxi, before striking the light standard. The male taxi driver was able to follow the suspect vehicle to the area of Regent Crescent and Centennial Boulevard, where the female driver abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. A second taxi had come to the area to assist and the two male drivers were able to detain the female suspect until Police arrived. The suspect showed the usual signs of intoxication and refused to provide a sample of her breath. A 27 year old Brandon woman was taken into custody and will be released when sober for court on September 21st, 2009. She faces charges of impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
