The advantage (?) of local media
11/6/2009 at 5:46 PM
I have heard a lot lately re: the need for local media mostly for its role in providing us the citizens of Brandon and surrounding areas with news of our district. News supposedly that doesn’t meet the criteria of the “big” stations. But do our local media measure up to our expectations? Case in point, this morning while listing to the local call in radio show, a caller inquired about the missing Brandon woman mainly as to the status…was she still missing? Was she found? To which the host replied he didn’t know and when the caller elaborated on his question he was told that they (the news dept.) wait for the police to inform them of such things and that he backed the news dept . in this policy. He also stated that he wasn’t going to spout off on a situation without having valid collaboration with the law. OK no problem except no one was asking for gossip plus if the news dept sits around waiting for people to contact and keep them apprised of situations are we getting the news? How about they, the news dept. one day go out and ask the police if she is still missing, I don’t know doesn’t sound to off the wall to me! This is just one situation that made me wonder how much news are we not getting? I mean if a news dept sits around all day waiting for, the news to come to them, doesn’t sound like there’s much to listen to!
