paying for school "concerts"

I am really upset with the fact i have to pay to see my sons "spring fling"...I do understand that the small gym at this school is not capable of holding everyone..but do we really need to pay??
its only an elementry school
(i wont get started how we didnt have a christmas concert either!! how sad!!)
