Canada Day in Souris

We're going to Souris later this week to do some camping. I did some searching online for any info on what's going on in town on Canada Day, and it looks like the festivities will be taking place all day on Wednesday, June 30. Can anyone confirm this? Why would the town hold the festivities the day before the holiday, when everyone is most likely still working? It'll be very disappointing if this is indeed the case as we won't be arriving until Wednesday evening. (at least we'll be there for the fireworks though!)
