I wanted to state a comment on the post about the tragic accident yesterday but thought it was going to lead to a total off the topic post dishonoring the victim.  
 
I dont think lights is the answer. Traffic lights are to control traffic on through corriders not just willy-nilly. The only acceptable thing to me would be a light like the one by Earl Oxford/University. You have to push the button and wait for the signal to cross.  
Again, that one is a pain too, people push it and then cross if there are no cars coming.
