Remembrance Day vs. Christmas Decorations/Lights
11/14/2010 at 2:07 PM
First of all, let me just say I respect every military veteran (living or passed on) and all currently serving military personnel out there! You are all very very brave souls and you are heroes. And I mean no disrepect to any of you with my disucssion. I believe Remembrance Day is very important, and that businesses should stay closed for the entire day.
But, there has been something that I just don't understand.
How is it that the putting up of Christmas decorations BEFORE November 11th is offensive to Military Veterans and Personnel?
Now, I already said that I respect all military personnel. I want to make that clear.
I also love Christmas. I'm a big kid at heart still. I love to see Christmas decorations indoors and outdoors. I love the spirit of Christmas, giving, being with friends and family, remembering what Christmas is truly about.
As much as I love Christmas, I do believe there is such a thing as putting up decorations too early. (In my opinion, which I'm entitled to.) There are members on Ebrandon that have said they've had their Christmas Tree up since August. That's too early for me, but hey, if you love it, go for it.
But how is all of this offensive to military personnel?
We have Santa Claus...and we have soldiers.
We have Christmas...and we have war/conflict.
Two very different things. How is one connected to the other to the point of upsetting people?
Edit note: Grammar correction
