Business asking for email address

Do people really have an opinion of Business collecting customers email address for surveys and marketing purposes? The place I work requires that I ask for a customer’s email (if it’s not on file) I have a difficult time asking, because personally I do not give out my email to anyone other than friends and family. Cuts down on the amount of spam I get. Example… I find it annoying when I bought a new computer from a company and they send me marketing emails every week. “Did I not just buy a new computer, why would be buying another one so soon. “
