Cops in Brandon Schools
3/31/2007 at 3:17 PM
CBC had a call in radio program awhile ago about a "contoversial" issue in Wpg. about having cops in schools.
Well, it surprised me because the Brandon School Division has been doing that for awhile now and from all accounts it is the best thing they ever did and the kids and parents agree. I really disliked the negative attitude from phone-in callers saying it was a waste of taxpayers money and how low have we sunk that Cops have to be in schools?
Constable Guy Roberts is the school liasion (alternates between 3 Brandon high schools) and he has gained a wonderful reputation with the kids.
It's not all about policing the hallways, but more about the kids having a friendly rapport with the assigned Officer (seeing him as the go to guy they can go to if problems arise). He is a friend and ally to most kids and is young enough to really connect with the kids.
I think it is just a great idea.
My kids loved him at Crocus - he almost gained celebrity stauts there as he was so terrific with kids.
What do you think?
