The Future of Downtown Brandon
4/1/2007 at 1:42 AM
Wednesday, April 4 is the 'Summit To Discuss The Future of Downtown Brandon' at 7:00 p.m. in the northwest atrium of the Town Centre. No registration required, all residents are invited to participate.
I can't make it in for this but I lots of people go.
Those who knew me when I used to work on / 'for' Brandon files or have read certain posts or any of my blog entries know I shoot my mouth off alot about the Downtown ! I feel that they truly are unique places, the soul of any city.
Talking to Brandonites I find that most people initially are negative about it but, as you scratch the surface and really get talking about it there is really a large 'silent minority' (or who knows, majority !) that do have an interest in downtown and actually a surprisingly short list of what would get them started coming downtown on a more regular basis.
This is the chance to say these things to the people who will be deciding on what, if any, efforts will be channeled to that area in the years to come. Reactions and data from forums like these not only give local officials, land owners, investors a "3D" view of what people want of their downtown but can also be used as backup for approaching other levels of government, private investors, foundations etc. that could be approached to help these things become a reality.
In other words, it's one of those "put your money where your mouth is" things. !!
