walking/biking paths

just wanted to put out a friendly reminder out about the walking paths now that it's warm enough to use them.
As someone who often walks and bikes on them, I'd like to remind people (walkers AND bikers) to shoulder check often to see if someone is coming up behind them. Also, please, try to stay to one side of the path. If you have a dog on one of those long leashes, please make sure to check often.
I'm not saying this to be rude, but for safety reasons. Quite often if you are on a bike and coming up behind someone they may be taking up the whole walking path and you have to shout at them to let them know you are there, (and then they think you are being rude) or some times you might be trying to pass by someone and they suddenly just step out in front of you. It's not always possible to ride "around" due to trees or other obstacles. THe walking paths are made wide enough for everyone to fit if we are all considerate.
Also, dogs on the very long leashes have run in front at the last minute and I'm afraid that someday, someone's pet is going to get hit, or it will clothesline the biker and they will get hurt.
Walking OR biking, I often check over my shoulder because I like to know if there is anyone coming up behind me to pass. Plus, it's a good idea to know who's "behind" you anyways!
cheers!
