Violence and crime....new thoughts

I am sick and tired of the crime and violence that has been slowly taking over our city for the past several years. It's always been there, but it is just getting out of control. In fact, this whole province is out of control. Think about it, all of the major cities here(Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie, Brandon) are turning into crime-ridden hell holes. It's sad, but we all know it's true. For example, what is Winnipeg's reputation in Canada and around the world? "Very cold, lots of snow, lots of mosquitoes, lots of CAR THEFT, UNSAFE TO WALK AT NIGHT , VERY HIGH PROPERTY AND PHYSICAL CRIME RATE, NOT SAFE DOWNTOWN FOR CHILDREN" etc etc. Brandon's reputation is sliding and will soon be on par with Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie. I believe that it's time for people to stop pussy-footing around the issues, and to be honest and speak their minds. It's clear that the governments in the province are out of ideas, so lets throw some out there for them.
Here's a proposal for you. Why doesn't our province take some drastic action and change some laws? I am strictly against all drugs, but they seem to be the cause of most of the violence and gang fighting that goes on. Why not de-criminalize substances like marijuana in the province, and make it ILLEGAL to participate in known organized crime or gang activity? Loosening up the laws on drugs will reduce the tension between gang "turfs", and police would be able to arrest and prosecute both teens and adults who choose to participate in gang activity, which would be illegal. No more roaming our streets in big groups, terrorizing the citizens of our city.
Agh. Yes, I agree that this idea would be considered "rediculous" by most and would probably never see the light of day, but the point that I am trying to make is that radical changes are what we need to take back our city and our province. Lets make Brandon and the rest of Manitoba respectable again. Let's make is a place that people come to, not a place that people try to get away from. Let's take back our home!
