Big Cats in Brandon?

I know this is going to sound crazy, but........
My 2 sons and I went for a bike ride tonight and we were exploring on some little off-road trails. We got a little lost and ended up going past the Christian Heritage School (always wondered where that was) and down a little trail into a trailer court and through a park (we were following what appeared to be a car track across the field) Then we went through what seemed to be a junk yard of some sort, and ended up in the back of the implement dealership on 18th street, across from the theater.
So, anyways, we were trying to find our way out of there and going along and I was first in line. We went through some tall grass and past an old crushed up stock car (this was behind the implement place). DS #1 was behind me and DS #2 behind him.
As we went along DS #1 called up to me "mom - did you see that great big cat???" and I didn't so I thought nothing of it. I was a little worried about how we were going to get out of where we were, so I just kept going.
So then after we found our way out - PHEW! - he asked me again and said that it was a giant cat. He said it was as big as our dog - and she's a mid sized dog - no where NEAR a cat size - and that is had a long straight tale and great big claws.
He said it climbed out of the car when I went past it and was walking towards us in the tall grass.
THis is kinda freaking me out because I was probably about 20 yards ahead of DS #2 and I'm worried that if it was a "big" cat it may have attacked him and I might not have noticed right away!!!
Is it possible that there are big cats - like Lynx or anything like that around this area? I have heard of things like this in the Brandon Hills, but this was right in City limits!
