Mayor Dave is on a Junket
9/19/2007 at 11:48 PM
Premier Garry and Mayor Dave with other Provincial and Winnipeg dignitaries have gone on a Junket to Ottawa to bend the ear of Stephen Harper. Premier Gary is keeping an election promise to ask for the increase of penalties for a list of crimes including:
-Providing stronger penalties for youth involved in
serious crimes, especially those involving auto thefts.
-Allowing first-degree murder charges for gang-related
homicides.
-Eliminating two-for-one remand credits.
-Classifying auto theft as an indictable violent
offence, and
-Making shooting at a building and drive-by shootings
indictable offences.
Is this not like putting the cart before the horse? Did he not have as an election promise to build a new prison? Does he intend to increase housing at Street Love to Imprison all the guilty youth that the new law changes to come will hold? Most of these people have no job and no money so fines are out of the question, and in my opinion House Arrest is a Joke. Could not all these Dignitaries ask Mr. Harper in a conference call, MTS even has Video Conferencing calls, it is just as good as being there, but cheaper.

May I remind you of the following:
Dear Friend of Heritage,
With this being Brandon’s 125th Birthday and the revitalization of Downtown occurring rapidly, we are taking this opportunity to make Brandon’s past, present.
A public meeting will be held Tuesday, September 25th, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Foyer, City Hall, 410 – 9th Street.
The purpose of this meeting is to discuss Brandon’s heritage and the prospect of a General Museum for the City of Brandon. The meeting is being hosted by the Brandon Municipal Heritage Committee and the General Museum Advisory Committee.
The meeting will be split into two separate presentations, one by each Committee, so that issues regarding the respective Committees can be directly addressed. We hope that you can participate in the discussions and share your thoughts and ideas as to what you would like to see for Brandon in relation to heritage programs and a general museum.
If you have any questions in regards to the meeting, please feel free to contact:
Councillor Jeff Harwood, Chair, BMHC, 727-2270
Councillor Errol Black, Chair, GMAC, 726-4895
We hope that you spread the word to any other residents of Brandon that have an interest in our Heritage. Hope to see you on September 25th, 2007.
