I just wanted to say a huge Thank You and show appreciation for the drivers who actually follow the posted School Zones along Victoria. King George is along Victoria East across the street from the East End Community Centre on Park Street and Earl Oxford is on the corner of Victoria and 18th. Both schools have School Zone signs posted, although they do not have the rules of the school zones below them as most of the other schools around Brandon do. I wanted to give a shout out to those drivers who realize that these are still School Zones as posted by the bright neon yellow school zone signs. Not all traffic signs on our streets have the rules posted below them, but it doesn't mean you don't have to follow them. They are still there and as a driver you should know the rules without them being posted below the sign. So in closing, thank you to the drivers who follow the posted signs and help keep our kids safe by following the posted signs.

Because these 2 schools are located on a provincial highway,the City of Brandon 30kph limit does not apply,although they are covered under existing HTA regulations.

Victoria avenue near King George and Earl Oxford school aren't part of the reduced speed school zones. Same with 18th street. There are also no signs posted on those streets.

Not applying this law consistently (Victoria Ave, Kirkcaldy by Kirkcaldy School, Park by JR Reid) makes me think there's no meat behind this law. Rather, I bet this will be front and center when our provincial government is up for re-election as a prime example of how they've made life better for all Manitobans.

To me, a traffic sign is a traffic sign. I follow the rules that I am supposed to with all traffic signs. I don't try to figure out which ones are actually enforceable or not. I was just showing appreciation to those drivers that do the same. A school zone sign is a school zone sign. It means there is a school zone and kids nearby. I appreciate the motorists who respect the traffic signs and follow them irregardless if they are actually enforceable or not.

Living near New Era School, I still fail to see people using the cross walk properly on 6th St. and Louise Ave let alone children being careless crossing in that area. While I agree nobody should be driving 70km per hour at a school zone, a bit of common sense needs to prevail. 26th st and 6th st. are major streets in Brandon. Its still not natural for people to slow down for 3 blocks. I'm just as guilty for forgetting to slow down right to 30 km per hour instead of 40 km per hour which is roughly how fast I drive by New Era School.  
 
Having a reduced speed limit for before school, lunch hour and until 5pm would of been sufficient. Having a reduced school limit even when school is closed is a bit overboard in my opinion. Also by New Era School, having a 4 way stop at 6th St and Louise Ave and 6th St. and Lorne Ave would (both intersections are bad for accidents!) would naturally slow traffic without the need of a reduced speed limit.

the problem is without the posted speed under the school zone sign, the sign means nothing, its not that its not enforceable, there is nothing to enforce  
 
the law is written to allow a drop in speed as low as 30km but it does nit have to be, some towns choose different speeds and that was allowed so without a posted speed people slowing down are not respecting traffic signs, they are either confused or find it necessary to slow, which is fine but not the law
