Just wondering what people's thoughts are on this topic. Is it a free for all for people to let their dogs leave a present for unsuspecting people of the public to eventually find after they step in it or is is common curtesy for the owner of said dog or dogs to be picking up after them. Is it fair to say dogs should be on a leash in the city or is ok to let your dog run free and leave that special gift where ever they like while in the city. I should add that this area is city property?

on this topic but it boils down to some people feel they are "above" picking up their own dog's shit. It's is lazy, and rude. I walk our dog everyday and am amazed to find dog crap on the boulevards, and even on the sidewalks. Who thinks its ok to let your dog poop on the sidewalk and just walk away?

In this world, you're always going to find people who don't pay attention to common sense. It's happened through history and it's annoying.  
 
You can't monitor people 24-7, city property or not. The key is awareness and education. It's come a long way from the way it used to be.  
 
People can be lazy and look the other way. No different than people leaving their cart in a lot to bang into your car, dropping something off a hanger in a store and walking away, a neighbor cat pooping in your flower bed and a hundred other things.  
 
Yes, it is common courtesy to leash and pick up after your pet.  
 
There's not much you can do about it, but wash off your shoe or spray water between your toes and smile, knowing you are still alive and can't sweat the small stuff. It's a sign of summer.

is a sign of summer?? lol! I don't think so!  
 
Saying there is nothing you can do only gives license for people to not pick up after their pets!  
 
If you know where the shit is coming from report them to animal control!  
 
I don't care how small the "present' is, I don't want to Q-tip it out of my 170 dollar shoes!

I never said they should NOT pick up after pets. This discussion will not have an end, so let's just leave things and I am good with that.  
 
If you have a family member reaching their end, these things just don't seem to be so bad.

It seems it only takes one bad dog owner, leaving one or two deposits each day, after a few months it noticeable. This spring was terrible along the side walk. They do not think that kids walk down the sidewalk and poo gets on their shoes, then into the house. Think dog owners  

I am a dog owner and I think it's absolutely disgusting when people don't pick up after their dog. Doesn't matter where it is: dog park, sidewalk, back yard. C'mon people! It's all part of having a dog. Can you imagine what it would be like if no one picked up after their pets? Ugh.

let their dog crap on your front yard all the time and didn't pick up you wouldn't call ACO?  
 
Sorry to hear that your family member is reaching their end but glad that you seem able to come and post on what seems trivial to you.

What I don't get is all the bags of dog poo I see. If you bothered to pick it up why not carry it to the litter box?

I don't feel I'm above it but it's outside, it's not like it's in someone's house or yard. I mean if my dog poops on the ground away from a sidewalk where chances of aanyone actually walking are very slim then what's the harm really? Picking up after your dog didn't become a thing until recently when everyone decided everything was bad, we survived before that. Of course I wouldn't leave it on the sidewalk or in someone's yard.

what if you know whos dog it is any they let the dog or dogs come and crap where kids are playing but yet still do not bother to pick it up and just walk away and leave it? They do not seem to care if your outside and see they either.

but you think it's okay to leave dog shit? There is a little thing called grass cutting that people have to do in the summer, who wants to step in shit?  
 
Last night I was cutting through my usual spot and smelled something gross and sure enough there was a big pile of dog shit!  
 

I find people lack in common courtesy. Cleaning up after your pooch is one way of showing respect for keeping the grounds clean for the next person. With the number of dogs owned around the city, if we all felt we could 'just leave it' we would be up to our knees in dog poop. Every spring when the snow melts you can see how it builds up.  
 
Also, if your dog is infected with any bacteria dangerous to dogs, leaving the poop behind is a sure way to spread it and make other dogs sick.  
 
It takes soooo little time and effort to clean it up. There is no excuse IMO.

If you think it's in a place nobody will step, just remember that kids run around crazily and in strange places. On that same note, I've seen dogs pooping in playground areas. Now THAT is truly disturbing - school is not out yet for elementary kids and they run around outside three times a day. I would hate for them to step in poo, that is GROSS.

The older lady who is our neighbour a couple houses to the east of us on Patricia Ave. Walks her little dog to the mail box everyday and she lets the dog crap on our lawn and on the lawns in between us and she just keeps on smiling and walking her dog like she has the right to let her dog do that and she does not have to clean it up. I hope her son or daughter in law reads this and has the courtesy to mention to her that the neighbours are watching and would appreciate her cleaning up after her dog.
