What is wrong with everybody that gets behind the wheel lately. Today is a great example of people not only being impatient but driving dangerously close to other vehicles down number 10 highway. Its bad enough this highway is not the safest out there but to add the carelessness of these drivers on it is ridiculous. When I have my cruise set and I look in my rear view mirror and there is a vehicle flying down the highway at who knows what speed, passing people when there is double lines and oncoming traffic I ask myself where is a police car when you need one. After riding my A$$ for a few miles she figured I was going to slow at 105km/hr and decided to blow past me when there is a double line again and more oncoming traffic. I guess she felt great and a sense of relief going past me and giving me the one finger salute. I know it made me feel pretty special knowing that I was number 1 to her. I guess I shouldn't complain to much about her speed as she did manage to slow down to about 95km going through Forrest. I know this because her speed was very visible to the vehicles behind her and it popped up very quickly on the speed sign there.  
 
All I am getting at is if you don't give a rats ass about your life and you want to drive like an idiot please go somewhere else and do it as I do value my life and don't feel I need to get off the road or move over for you to continue driving this way and putting other lives in danger because of your selfishness and your need to be somewhere now. Just stop putting innocent people at risk because of your stupidity.  
 
That's my rant

Today I was driving north on 10th and a vehicle going south passed another vehicle. I was very thankful I was on the other side of the intersection

My parents had a near miss about a month ago when someone blew a stop sign on a side street going nearly double the speed limit. The only thing that saved them from being t-boned (which would have seriously injured or killed at least one of them) was a 30 km school zone. They happened to be be driving through one and it gave them time to notice and slam on the brakes. There is no excuse for flying through the city like that, especially when there are cross streets and other drivers. Unfortunately they were understandably too shaken up afterward to get a plate number.

Thank goodness the construction on #10 north is finished. Couldn't count the number of vehicles that flew past the clearly marked construction zone signs and 60 kph signs. And gave those of us doing the posted limit a look of disgust.  
Just because there may be no workers present at that point, you are still required to obey the signs.  
And yes, visible lack of police presence. Never saw one driver stopped the entire time.

city is a joke. I can't even express what I feel like doing to people who continue to drive like morons. My husband has been rear ended twice in the last 7 years here. Once some kid was looking for a lighter on the floor of his vehicle while my husband was waiting at the light on 18th & Rosser, slammed into him going 50. The second time....which was only this past fall some lady slammed into him at the lights in front of the corral center going 60. Talk about permanent neck & back damage. All because people can't pay attention. Lucky my kid wasn't in the car or that women's face would have been smashed in! Not to mention she refused to call an ambulance for my husband! If I were there I probably would have smashed her face anyways & the assault charge would have been worth it!

If I ever get the one finger salute or a fist wave I always respond with a really enthusiastic wave and smile like I know them.

That will annoy them.  

I witness a slow driver not paying attention to my opinion that a car (slow driver also) was to caught him off and they hit each other. I could see it and I slowed down so I would not get hit.  
Another time a slow driver was to make a turn not realize a car (slow driver) is coming straight ahead and almost hit each other and both not realize it too.  
Others situations but I can't name them all. Driving is paying attention around you.  
If you are not in a rush and think a bunch drivers are in a rush well why don't you slow down yourself and give a chance for the car behind you to pass on the highway or in the city if there is a 2 lane then move over to let the rush car go by. If you do not understand why people are in rush maybe some do not understand why driving slow as if you have the whole day to drive.

The city gets the drivers it deserves. Brandon is not a challenging city to drive in and mistakes or carelessness have no consequences. This perpetuates bad habits and lazy driving.  
 
Coming from a large city I for the life of me do not understand the 4km line up going North on 18th to cross a bridge. In any other city cars would line up in two lanes and allow cars to merge into the left lane. The stupid line up actually impedes traffic flow further south on 18th. Further, if you knew that line up was there everyday why would one continue to use that route when there are at least three alternative to that Pacific and 18th intersection? I actually feel embarrassed for the drivers who line up there and try not to make eye contact with them when travelling south for fear I might recognize them.

Agree.....I have seen that line up almost all the way to Victoria. I have no problem driving past everyone to end up at the front. Sure beats waiting through about 10 light changes and moving 5 cars every light.

without a doubt drivers should use both lanes and zipper merge over the railway bridge. I'm surprised the city hasn't put up signs to that effect.  
Did you learn to drive in Winnipeg? They are the rudest drivers in Canada.

You change lanes in a right turn only lane and expect that everyone will brake to let you in. I travel that area daily and at least four times a week I see some self-entitled doorknob believe that their time is more important than that of everyone else. They try to zip ahead and are often in the right turn only section when they veer to the left. Then the chain of brake lights comes on because of that person who is probably oblivious to the disruption they have caused.  
 
The same attitude appears heading south from the Tim's on the hill. Every day some idiot sits in the left turn only lane, then crosses the highway heading south when the light turns green.  
 
I don't understand why some people so ardently believe that their time is so much more valuable than everyone else, and why they are so willing to put others' safety at risk.  
 
On Sunday, June 21 a maroon Ford crew cab truck was heading south on #10 between Minnedosa and Brandon. Tragically, he had to slow down in the construction zone. But not for long. Even though there were no passing signs, he just had to pass long strings of vehicles at a time. He passed me just north of the turn to Rivers. Several times he made several unsafe manoeuvres, putting others at risk. After all that, he arrived that the light at highways 1 and 10 about 20 seconds before me.  
 
This seems to me to be the same attitude as those who must rush to the head of the line on 18th before the bridge. Hey Fishin Guy or blackshado, do you drive a maroon Ford truck ?

Actually I don't care if I get ahead of you. Thanks anyway. In case others don't know it is not a solid line until about Tokyo Zone. So therefor I have every entitlement to change lanes. Call me what you want when I pull up to you. Go ahead and beat me to the bridge. It opens up a nice space between you and the car behind you leaving me a nice open spot to merge into. What people don't understand is when the light turns green everyone leaves this huge gap between vehicles when accelerating. This leaves plenty of room for vehicles in a right lane to merge.....but in order for that to happen people in the lane need to get their chip off their shoulder of "screw that guy I'm not letting him in" attitude.

I hear you (Awesome). A person can't even go out somewhere, without some "waste of skin" driver trying to force you off the road. We do need more Police presence. There's not (1) day that I don't see multiple traffic violations. The speed limit signs are just there for decoration. I won't even travel TransCanada Highway now, because the speed limit has been raised in various locations to 110 kph. So now we'll see vehicles going 130 kph, or 140 kph. Some drivers figure anyone doing the speed limit are a hazard. Any fool can make a car go fast, but not everyone can handle a vehicle at high speeds. I have a Camper Trailer, and I won't even take it out on busy weekends, simply because of the attitude on our highways. I continue to drive the speed limits regardless of how many drivers I annoy. like I said earlier, we need more Police Enforcement. This is my Rant.

Zipper merge, what happens to people wanting to turn east on Rosser? That lane belongs to them and the ones going to Pacific. The zipper merge would still be a few blocks long.

I really wish people would learn to read the street signs that have been put up. Past the intersection of 18th and Rosser going north is not a merge lane, it is for turning right only. Going over the bridge is a single lane. So if you are heading north get into the left lane before that final intersection. People who think they have the right to merge are wrong. Use you brains and open your eyes, look at the traffic sign.

Actually no. Like I said people leave such a big gap between vehicles I lane change with no difficulties. It is very simple, too bad more people didn't know how to do it. Traffic flow would actually increase.

Totally agree about reading signs and markings....I have even posted a picture to help out. The solid line doesn't begin till Tokyo Zone. From the lights until then is all dotted line. I even checked the Manitoba drivers handbook for clarification. Broken Line-Passing is permitted. I just don't know where all this confusion comes from. It is marked on the road and and just before the right lane ends there is a sign above showing that the lane turns right. Sooooo difficult to understand that lane changing is permitted up until the solid line just before the road curves.

With an attitude like you have at the "bridge on 18th" you are not only endangering yourself but also the innocent person who may be on the other side of the crest of the bridge.  
 
Most of the accidents (roughly 3 per week)on that bridge are because of people like you rearending someone because you won't let people merge like you are supposed to because you feel the need to exercise your stupidity and be " ahead' of everyone else.  
Just a matter of time before it happens to you if you keep it up...  
 
And just like Fishing Guy said I too hope I end up beside you there every time because in your clouded thinking you are opening up a space right behind you for me to merge over to the left like should be done... just hope that I don't see you over the crest with your face buried in a big white pillow with the front end of your car smashed up and some kids and their mother injured badly in the car in front of you...

The threads "Merging on 18th Street at the Bridge" and "The existence of God" are exactly the same - two separate groups with strong beliefs who are convinced they're right.

But if you use the term "lane change" it is more suited to this situation. The broken lane does allow lane changes before the 18th st bridge contrary to what some people want to believe here. That is alright though, they can line up 50 cars deep and I will continue to use the right lane and lane change before the center line turns solid.

You can also, if necessary, turn right onto Pacific, do a U-turn, and re-merge onto 18th Street before those stuck at the light on 18th in the left lane continue up 18th Street.

You are absolutely right, the sad thing is that they do not "see" themselves as we the observers see.

LMAO!!!! Funny you say that. If I notice a larger than normal line in the right lane at the lights at Rosser I will turn right on Rosser and go down 15th st to Pacific and turn back onto 18th at the bridge. I can do all that within the time the light changes. Much faster still than waiting the 5+ light changes for the herd to follow each other in the left lane.

I've heard people say that it takes a half hour to get from Canadian Tire to Walmart. Thinking more like 10 or 15 changes, especially if the line starts just after Kullbergs.
