Brandon needs to have its own campground with indoor/outdoor food prep facilities with fridges and stoves as well as a hall to escape the rain if you are having an event maybe even a pool? and game area.  
Carberry, Portage, Neepawa and many other smaller communities have them but Brandon has nothing of the sort.  
I think many opportunities are being missed with reunions, weddings, graduation get togethers and such.  
Have you ever tried to have a complete outdoor summer event and changed you mind because of the lack of such a facility.  
 
Perhaps this is the answer to the BMHC grounds.

are owned by the Province, so it's unlikely they will build a campground there.  
 
And yes, another privately owned campground should be built here. Otherwise there's only Meadowlark and Turtle's Crossing. Bry-mar Campground east of Brandon open a few years ago.

but it would be nice to have something in the city. Bry-Mar and Meadowlark have the camping but not the facilities and Turtle Crossing is just sad. I know that there have been some challenges out there over the past few years but to be honest, I miss Curran Park.  
Grand Valley Park is under new management and I understand that they will have most of what we need so that might be the place for people to consider taking their functions.  
 
Something with everything is a tall order but plenty of smaller communities have managed to get it done and they are super busy because of it!

is that everyone expects the city or someone else to do everything.

I'm pretty sure this is a stretch...Private enterprise, welcome. Taxpayers, not so much.

I believe that the business venture would be a solid one and believe you me, I would do it myself if I had the funds.  
I don't want my taxes to pay for it either but I do see the need.  
Perhaps someone in the development business might too!

a community hall. You need to move to a smaller town. Have you seen some of the structures they seem to be able to pay for with fund raising events and government grants? Especially rinks. Often they rival anything seen in Brandon. Just a thought.

as I said originally. I have been to many events in surrounding communities and the setups are fantastic! I guess I just wish we had the same here. Everything in one area so no one needs to drive all over the place to get from venue to venue.  
Ahhhhh.... its just a dream.

We're actually camping at Bry-Mar right now and there's all the facilities that you would ever need, minus a pool. We don't mind heading into our favourite splash park to beat the heat! We love it here!

Bry-Mar does offer the space to hold family gathering and weddings. There have been several of each held at the facility. There is lots of room and plenty of camping sites if booked in advance. The cost of building a recreation facility is very costly and would be impossible to cover the costs on. People using the campground for various events have rented large white tents. There are a lot of activities to do at the campground. The only thing that we do not have as of yet this year is a pool. This weekend the campground is full....a huge family reunion as well as weekend campers....next weekend a huge wedding is being hosted here.....take a drive through and see where the area is to host large events....I think you may be surprised.

And then people complained about tax dollars and now we have nothing much. Mos communities provide amenities to the betterment of the community as a whole. Can you guess how many randonites go to Souris to camp because of the community funded campground and the amazing pool? The town was divided on whether they should build an amazing pool or just an OK pool well the pool brings campers and mine to the community. Too bad Brandon says no to everything. So now that what we have.
