canada post is quite expensive compared to us post./ the staff at the east end are usually more competant than the private outlets

I had a very bad experience at one of the postal outlets and had to go to the Douglas Street location and get them to phone the girl in order to release a parcel to me. She refused to give me the parcel until I produced id with my name and address to match even though it had my company name/address. She said I could have taken the notice from the mailbox. I informed her that it was locked box where I picked up the mail. After leaving and coming back and her still giving me a hassle I received the parcel only to find out that she new a manager at my place of employment. I held back my anger and walked out but really just wanted to strangle this crazy girl. I see that particular postal unit has now closed down though. Thank goodness!

Get used to using nothing but postal outlets in stores. Canada Post will be gone if the present federal government has it's way. They've been trying to get rid of Can. Post for 10 years. Managed to get rid of door to door...only a matter of time before it's all gone.

Canada Post is an arms length from the federal government. Positive it is a Harper conspiracy that there is only 1 or 2 pieces of mail a week to deliver. Find a source for your comment or let me into your secret about who is going to deliver the mail. Keep spreading happiness and good cheer. Have a good one.

Anytime I have mailed a parcel it always came with a tracking number. I have even had the Canada Post office employees tell me that all parcels automatically come with a tracking number.

That's the reality of our postal system today...what is sadder is if you would mailed that package to a Canadian destination it probably would have cost twice as much.It costs more to ship in your own country then to the USA.  
 
If you can..use the rate calculator to get an idea of cost before you go to an outlet ..I learned a long time ago not trust the outlets' prices..

I was told that the actual Canada Post outlets will be cheaper than the retailor places that have them (like shoppers) as those places are aloud to up the price.. i should have been smart and went to the actual CP the other day as a package cost me 10-15 more than the same item had cost me previously to send...

Retail outlets such as Shoppers, 7-11, and the like are all connected through Canada Post computer programming for pricing. As a result, the retail outlets charge the same as a Corporate office. The price differences you are experiencing are likely because the type of service you are being offered. Small Packet, Expedited, Xpress Post and Regular Parcel rates are different as they have different features and benefits.  
 
Rates are determined by size, weight, and destination. Cubing density may also factor in. Rates also fluctuate due to the fuel surcharge which normally changes each month.

Are just that, outlets of Canada Post. They may reside in separate businesses, but they are still Canada Post thru and thru.  
The UPS Store, on the other hand, is a separate entity from UPS, however they charge you UPS rates.

The employees who service the Canada Post retail outlets (Shoppers, Macs, 7-11, etc.) are employees of the host business. They are not Canada Post Employees.
