As per the Brandon Sun link below, an 18 month old boy has been taken to hospital after having to be rescued from the inside of a vehicle on what is the hottest day of the year. The full story isn't known at this time, however thoughts have to be with hoping that the 18 month old is alright.

But I doubt the door locks are to blame, considering it seems like the child was left alone in the car, where were the parents?

The father was there. By the sounds of it he got out of the car then couldn't open the doors to get the child out. The father smashed the window to get the baby out. Terrible thing but sounds like it was unintentional.

Thing they got there in time.

..misunderstood "a father of 2" as being the childs father. My mistake.

With the info. so far, it sounds to me like the parents called the tow truck due to the malfunction and that even the tow truck driver couldn't get in, and finally broke the windows to get the child. With the heat today, it wouldn't take long at all for the child to get overheated, even waiting 10 minutes for a tow truck.

Frigging automatic locking doors can have a mind of their own. Have cost me twice to have a tow company come to unlock. I now have spare keys everywhere.

My car has played tricks on me with locking as well. I get into the habit of not fully closing my door when I get out to go open my baby's door! And it is for reasons exactly like this! That poor baby and giving the benefit of doubt to the father, poor daddy too for having to feel that worry!!

horrible thing to have happen, hopefully the little guy is ok....I am sure there can't be a more helpless feeling for Dad I hope people don't blame him, I am sure it was his worst nightmare and will relive itself every time he locks his doors...

you were at the scene exactly when it happened it's hard to blame the father without knowing exactly what happened. I feel for the father. There's lots on Facebook who feel the father should be charged without knowing the full story. They are just reacting to the headline without reading the rest.  
 
You also don't want to just throw a big rock through the window because you then risk flying glass injuring the toddler. And not everyone has a big hammer on their person all the time.

Easy to say. Depending on your environment there isn't always a rock or something solid to use. Breaking a window is always a last resort. Sounds like the guy did everything right. Tow truck was called and I am sure they put a rush on it.

When ever i get out of the vehicle to get my children out of their seats and unbuckle them I always shut my door, then open theirs. This is what obviously happened it just so happened the locks were not working properly. As a lady I don't think i'd have the strength to break a window unless I have something on hand. She probably panicked and wasn't thinking clearly. Obviously it was an accident. The Brandon sun should have waited for the full story instead of treating it like they did, they treated it like gossip " oh i saw someones kid locked in the car and some guy had to break the window" . They should have waited for the facts and full story.

The Brandon sun has updated their story. The child was accidentally locked in the car by mom. She IMMEDIATELY called a few tow companies, but they weren't coming fast enough, so she called 911. She was hysterical and banging in the windows. The tow truck driver heard from an employee what was happening and sped to the scene, rescuing the child.  
 
This was an ACCIDENT and I don't think the mom deserves any judgment. Nobody "left" a baby in a hot car. Thankfully they are reporting the child will be fine.

how fast incorrect information gets spread. The Vince Li Facebook post for example. Sadly many just read the headline and post on it without reading or understanding the story. See it lots on Facebook and on here at times. But then the Brandon Sun reporter was only tweeting limited information.

shame on you Brandon Sun as if this poor mother didn't have enough stress, wait till you get the whole story before you go on social media, good grief! Glad everything turned out ok!

I didn't see any facts that were falsely reported. With breaking news stories it's typical for facts to start out sparse and become clearer over time. That's especially important for a reader of any medium to keep in mind at a time when info travels as quickly as it does now and audiences are as demanding as ever for immediate info!  
But this isn't really about the Sun, this is about a young boy that is thankfully okay.

Woulda done whatever to get in. A little flying glass compares to nothing to a dying child.
