Enough is enough this has been going on for years and years, its time they brought in a bait car. I wonder what it would cost, I'm sure it would be worth it, I would think after years of getting away with car hoping these clowns graduate to bigger and better crimes, according to wikipedia they have used them in Surrey BC

that we as a society are raising our children to be entitled. How many times do I hear now that everyone gets a prize just for showing up to the competitions...or we don't fail anyone. Kids get passed through the system regardless of grades. And to top it off, this new thing where older children get a gift when a new baby sibling is born? This just irks me. To me, we need to do away with all this coddling and go back to rewarding what has been "earned". So sorry you had to be violated by one of these self entitled individuals we are producing.

I would be in favor of a bait car if there were some real consequences for offenders. If the courts won't address this, I would be in favor of a bait car that locked in and gassed the offenders.

That is so funny our family was talking about why Brandon does not have bait cars on the weekend. I agree it would not be a bad idea. No matter how big or small of a town in sure someone would always try to steal a car or break into one.

They will just find out there under age to charge and get off the streets. They will just be taken home to there parents and there out the next night and the kids know this as well there laughing about it

Thieves and the stealing sort will for sure emulate what they're taught.

It is too bad that society has come to this. Crime has increased a lot and maybe we need to go back--way back-to the sort of punishment they used to deal out in other countries. For example - - if you are caught stealing, you have a finger lopped off- - - get caught again, lose another finger. I bet that would make a lot of these thieves think twice before they steal. Either that or revert to Castle Law, where a person's home and property are his/her domain and force (deadly if needed)is allowed. I would like someone to try to break into my house, regardless of law they would get a big,big, surprise ! Nuff said.

Lopping off fingers for stealing, etc., will never happen, but I like that idea.  
 
That's why I sleep with a bat and a hammer by my side, a full alarm system, keys for alarm, bestie alert dog and Las Vegas security lights.  
 
Been victimized before with a home break in before and I'm not going to put up with it again.  
 
Get a job or an education. Make yourself useful in society. It's actually quite gratifying to pay for things, knowing you've earned it.  
 
Leave a good, honest tax paying citizen and their stuff alone.

If people stopped leaving valuables such as purses, wallets, cell phones, ipods etc. in vehicles these thieves would likely not be as interested... Also if people started locking their doors it would also help. Most of these thieves are less likely to smash windows or force their way in for fear of making noises and attracting attention. But wide open vehicles with valuables inside are easy pickens I'm afraid!

I also feel sorry for everyone who has been victimized by theaft. More needs to be done. Maybe if we start living like we did 30 plus years ago kids had respect. You did not dare step out of line unless you liked to be strapped. Being grounded was nasty and we never had an allowance or was paid to do house work. Kids have way to much these days. The law seems to just slap the kids on the hand and say don't do it again. Not sure what the answer is but something needs to be done.

We had no valuables, iPods or cell phones in the vehicles. They were in our driveway locked. We just had our air freshener a pack of 4 thrown on the floor, garbage tossed, lights left on and doors opened. So since we had nothing they made a mess.

I'm finding it kind of hard to listen to how "kids these days" have it so easy. I fail to see how generalizing my entire generation as being lazy/unwilling to contribute to society really works towards a solution for a small, segregated group of people who commit these crimes.

Yes we should be teaching our kids.. a lot of us do, but do u live in a bubble? Some people have nothing..some do it for fun. Lock your doors of car/house. It's common sense and who knows who's going through it. It could be a 40 year adult looking for change. This is a ridiculous topic that keeps coming up that is so preventable. Yes we teach our kids not to steal. .but as parents/adults ..grab a brain and grow with what this world is sucumbing to one way or another. Enough of these rants...lock ur doors. Plain & simple. Things aren't the way they used to be..but locking door is much easier than having to complain a day later on here. I'm not judging or offending anyone I hope. It's common sense in this day & age. There way worse out there than that. So preventable knowing it'll happen. Just a saying. Please don't get mad. It's common sense.

Who leaves their most prized posessions in car locked or not? I know it feels unlawful and terrible. .but this day and age..u have to lock stuff up and/or take your stuff in. Thieves are everywhere. People should just know that and be teaching their kids that. The problem ain't going away anytime soon. Lock it up tight or take inside. Commen sense

Why not all of you make up a committee to watch for em? Instead of ranting and raving and talking about bait cars (which would never fly).. why not pool together and do neighborhood watch? Simple answer to a big problem.

I don't think that was necessary at all. Some of these people are childre/adults that have had no chance from start/disabilities, and don't have a clue/chance from start..except but to be criminal..I cant even call somw that..but Times have changed people. I don't like it.. but come on..I bet most have no stable families..no nothing.. and their out being bad or trying to live. I'm not whatsoever saying thats right..but it happens and we all should be aware and lol your stuff up. I've had my car gone through a few times. I won't get near house door before I know it's locked. Reality these days whether we like it or not. No delusional chopping fingers off be back anytime soon. Lock doors. The REALITY is that my tax dollars pay for an unlimited amount of programs for just those people. They are not born criminals. They CHOOSE to do the illegal things they do. They CHOOSE not to work because it's easier to steal from people who do work hard.

thinking courts don't do much they just get a fine or probation what should be done is have them all wear bright orange coveralls so everyone can see who they are guess there be a lot out there in orange yet of course some do gooder would bring up rights issue I think it would be good idea

In most cases, these crimes are committed by children. Even if they are caught there is no recourse and they are returned home to the negligent adults that allowed them to roam the streets at 4 am. Maybe it's time to start fining or punishing the parent.

Last year when I was living at The Landing...my neighbors truck got her window smashed and had a few things stolen...me..I never lock my doors...they went through the truck, made a mess, but never took anything..not even the money I had in the little cubby hole. Not sure if they were looking for something specific or not. But it only happened once...I still don't lock my doors. I'd rather clean up some papers and stuff rather than clean up broken glass.  
But there are many circumstances that lead these individuals to do what they do..I could list about 12 reasons why..but t Co. Especially down to it happens and you have to learn to adapt and protect yourself...just like in years passed...I've taken the law into my hands on a couple occasions without notifying the police and never had any problems after that..BUT I know it was wrong and I don't suggest anyone do this. A few things of minor value that are taken is better than facing retaliation from taking the law into your own hands, it's so not worth it in the long run. Does it suck? Yes of course, we work hard for our possessions. But you can always buy more stuff.

The majority of these incidents are kids car hopping, walking around trying door handles til they find one open. If people remove their valuables and lock their vehicles they have greatly reduced the chance of becoming a victim. Not saying that if you do the above you will never have something happen but a lot less likely then leaving your car wide open. Intentionally leaving your vehicle unlocked is irresponsible and encourages this type of behavior. Do you leave your house unlocked when your not home?? Luckily MPI and your insurance policy still covers these people who don't lock their vehicles and find themselves a victim. It's too bad they wouldn't void a policy for this reason!

Hey GuyR, are you a cop? I am not saying in any offence way to you just sounds like it and you are RIGHT so no bad comments here on your post from me.  
I always lock my doors, vehicle and house. I chain my bikes too even when my bikes are locked inside. I trust no one, not even neighbors. I close windows at night that easy access too so I can sleep more in peace. Better and easier to prevent first.

I have been through a vehicle robbery and attempted home invasion. Bastards are still in court,almost a year. They will get very little, cause it cost the system too much. Through the grapevine, I found out that the parents are the same way! I only wish we had the same policies as some states, shoot first and let the law decide on property, more so family, protection.

Listen I said everything was locked, no valuables left in the vehicles. I keep my house locked when I'm at home as well. I was not complaining. Not only that I came from a poor and abusive family, I never choose crime or abuse others because I grow up in that environment. I choose to make something of myself. I'm so tired of hearing well they had a hard life, they don't know any better. You have choices. I can go on about my life but I won't. Like I said I choose to get help to make a better life for myself and my family. So ONCE AGAIN EVERTHING WAS LOCKED UP.

I think he's just smart & most of it real Commen sense. Don't have to be a cop to know to lock doors & to know how some kids operate. Especially when it happens so frequently and people are constantly ranting about it. Just lock the doors. Case closed.
