I have oil field experience and i sometimes wonder if i should leave it off because employers see that and assume i am returning without giving me a chance, if the job im applying for is a great place to work and provides a decent wage then i will stay
also if i dont fill my resume it looks like ive been unemployed for a long time and an employer may wonder why. The other side is that oil field people are usually used to working long hours and never being able to ask for days off, plus you can learn many transferable skills so its a toss up and i end up using my oil field experience and either highlighting it or downgrading it depending on what im applying for
OP, if you have lots of experience and think you are more then qualified i would suggest something is wrong with your resume. Once or twice could be explained by thinking someone else more qualified got the job but if you are not even interviewing then no matter if your resume looks good it plainly isnt good enough. So get someone to look it over and see what can make it even better, make sure you are tailoring your resume and cover for the particular job and then if you still cant find employment start calling in a few weeks and ask the hiring manager what you are missing to be selected, some maybe wont say but if they do they will give you valuable incite to what you need to do and if they have an opening they just might think you want it bad enough that you will work out for them
good luck
