Well...

I don't know where some of you've been in the last few years. But let me be first to say... "Welcome to the new reality of city living for this century". I'm not trying to put any people down on eBrandon, but... where the hell have you been? For almost ten to fifteen years, pretty much every single vehicle built has remote locks. Can anyone remember the last time they actually needed to physically inserted a key into a car door to lock or unlock on something newer than 2001? CLOSE THE TRUNK, REAR HATCH, OR DOOR AND PUSH THE BLOODY BUTTON EVERY SINGLE TIME. That's all you need to do. This post is no different than those who've posted complains about "car hoppers" who rummage through their unlocked vehicles. We all just need to get into the habit of keeping our cars always locked. The media is only broadcasting the significant crimes that happen around our communities and police often boast about how crime is often on the decline. What often gets left out is the petty crime and the "moment of opportunity crime". Mainly because they go unreported, due to that the victims often feeling they were the initial cause to their misfortune or instinctively know it's now done and gone for good. And they shouldn't bother with the police with something what will not produce any positive results. Which I suppose this is the smart reason for Mr. Crook to do these sort of things. I guess their logic is to do a bunch of small thefts that most may never be reported or taken seriously by the Police over a single, significant major crime that the cops will then dedicate more focus in resolving. Hey, with extra time and with slightly more effort, the same payout can be achieved with fewer risks. Why break into someplace to take something when things are just simply left sitting out in the open to be picked up?
We've all been through something similar. By allowing ourselves to "let our guard down", forgetting that there's a world outside of our bubble and unconsciously leaving oneself open for the crime of opportunity. And once it happens, we not only feel victimized... But feel stupid and hating ourselves for letting it happen. Often projecting our anger and shame towards the unknown perpetrators to hide our own guilt & embarrassment of allowing it to happen in the first place.
I know many OPs are just venting their frustrations with sarcasm, all the while hoping to deliver a message to the thief and general public... this business of letting everyone know every week is getting annoying to me. So annoying, that I feel that cops should be issuing tickets and fining those who allow themselves to be victimized by faults done to encourage the crime from even happening. Think of it as like the deductible on your car insurance... If you did wrong, you pay. ....So if you leave your car unlocked, or your wallet/purse/phone/money/groceries sitting out in the open for anyone to simply help themselves, you will be fined by the police for the "service call". How about $25.00? We can call it the "stupid fine". I left my car/home unlocked --stupid fine. I was running the car to warm-up with the keys in it --stupid fine. Left my phone unattended/behind --stupid fine. My bike was sitting unlocked and out in the open --stupid fine. I left my wallet with the groceries out of my line of sight, sitting at the curb during the night --stupid fine. Maybe then we as the public may consider pushing the door lock button, securing their belongings now, instead of later and acting on an ounce of prevention for a pound of cure. Because almost all crimes of opportunity are avoidable and most victims are not only part of the problem, but usually knew the solution before it happened.
Sorry for what happened to you, Lau. But you should have known better. I know saying this makes me look like an @$$, but really.... this is painfully obvious that most the blame has to fall on to you.
...they shouldn't steal or destroy, but don't make it easy or tempting for them to do it. Again, I'm sorry, but I have to scold and shame you for allowing it to happen.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong and a dick.
