You : Pulling into Superstore parking lot from Victoria Avenue, travelling at a low speed in a southern direction approximately 1/3 block north of the entrance - approaching the turn onto the gas bar.  
 
Me: Carrying two grocery bags, about to head east across a CLEARLY marked pedestrian crosswalk at a brisk pace in front of the south side of said entrance.  
 
You: Accelerating your vehicle hoping to challenge me for the "right of way" which I clearly owned.  
 
Me: Continue walking onto the CLEARLY marked crosswalk without giving up my right of way.  
 
You: Slowing down but not coming to a complete stop. As you pass me (very closely) you yell at me that I "pi55ed you off".  
 
Actually, I could have slowed down and made you stop..... I had the right of way, I did not leap out in front of you, you were far enough away and travelling at a slow enough speed that my crossing should have been a non-issue for you.  
 
This "me first" and thoughtless behaviour that is becoming common is what pi55es me off. I hope if there were children in your vehicle that they don't grow up with your selfish values.

The way I understand puts the incident on 9th st. That's the only place they could be heading south and be 1/3 block north of the enterance?

You sound like you have the me first attitude. I myself when crossing at a crosswalk wait to make sure the vehicle stops. Maybe the person did not see you. Maybe they were not paying attention. Challenging a vehicle to stop does not seem like a great idea to me but, you had the right of way as you stated.

this doesn't free the driver nor the pedestrian from their responsibilities of ensuring that they can safely move across/through roadways. At many turning lights, the driver has the green light that they can legally turn on yet cannot because someone decides to cross at the crosswalk. I find that normally the person is also walking across when their light (orange hand, don't walk) indicates they shouldn't be entering the crosswalk.  
When driving on the highway, I am not sure if I have the right of way or the deer do, but I am always watching for them and will slow down to make sure I am not going to hit them. They appear to be defiant about their right to cross the road and judging by what is splattered on the road, that is what gets them killed.

The person in question had PLENTY of time to stop. I did not hinder their travel deliberately. I will not wait for a vehicle far enough away and travelling slow enough that they can stop, very easily for a person entering a pedestrian crosswalk.  
 
I was exiting the main entrance of Superstore and entering he crosswalk. This woman was just entering the parking lot from the gas bar turn off. Plenty of distance away. She was going south on the 9th St entrance

can stop a lot quicker than a vehicle so it doesn't matter if you were in the right, you still have to be aware and never assume. There are courteous and respectful drivers and then there are those that are not. The same applies to pedestrians.

She had PLENTY of time to stop. I took NO CHANCES entering the crosswalk. I did not deliberately hinder her progress or cause her to make a panic stop. She saw me and sped up to intimidate me, which obviously did not work.  
 
I am beginning to understand why almost no one stops for pedestrians at crosswalks on this city. Sheesh. Read and comprehend people.

another thing to consider is how many people are coming out of the store and how staggered they are, altho i usually stop for people walking sometimes you have to make them wait or you will cause a huge traffic jam  
 
it does sound like this driver didnt want to wait but selfish people are on both sides of the issue

If you were seriously injured or dead, did it really matter whose right of way was?  
My rule always is, prevent an accident if you can. Be a bigger person.

traveller - I was the only person walking out. The vehicle was FAR enough away that she had plenty of time to stop. I did not act arrogantly or forcefully, I simply took my right of way. She was in a hurry maybe??? or perhaps she thought that vehicles have the right of way over pedestrians EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS FAR ENOUGH AWAY TO STOP EASILY....  
 
 
Deb1 - Apparently you would wait for a car FAR FAR away if you were going to cross the road, even if you had a lot of time to get out there and the car had a lot of time to stop.  
 
Do you people just come on here to nay say or doubt everything?  
 
AGAIN - She was a good 1/3 of a block away, travelling slowly. She could have easily turned into the gas bar or the first row of parking - get it???? I stepped out to cross and she sped up - I continued walking because I was already a good way across the crosswalk. She was the rude and ignorant person... sheesh.

I'm unsure of the reason for this post? Cee Jay 55 if I were to write a post of all the 'bad' drivers I meet on the street on a daily basis, ebrandon would be flooded. Of course you had the right of way .. but I don't see the point in creating this post .. In fact the attitude which you use to describe the lady with seems to be very similar to yours.  
 
Forgive and move on with life. Life is not worth getting worked up over trivial issues like this one.

One - The lady was really pissed at me even though I had done nothing wrong and she sped off before I had a chance to say anything to her to explain why she was in the wrong..  
 
Maybe she reads eBrandon and sees herself on here. I did not do this in anger - more for educational purposes.  
 
Two - I see far too many drivers "own" the crosswalks when they have lots of time to stop for pedestrians: particularly along Victoria Avenue. I have seen streams of cars pass young mothers trying to cross with children, elderly ladies, and even young children with no adult visibly nearby. No one seems to think they should stop for a pedestrian. And before you assume I don't stop, I do whenever possible: although I have had people shoot out in front of me where I have had to slam on the breaks... that is annoying but NOT (I feel the need to repeat this - again) what I did to this woman in Superstore lot....

Cee Jay you had the right of way..you were right and the driver was wrong. The moral of the story is there are stoopid people out there that don't have a clue. So a little education even if it doesn't reach the posed off person may educate some of the less fortunate people that are unaware of the rules of the road, driving or walking.

Ebrandon used to be a good place to be able to make a statement and just express your view. Now whatever that view is will be the wrong one and everyone piles on with dumbass nasty comments . If you haven't anything to add and are just being snarky.. Shut up.

I know the crosswalk and the exact situation the OP is referring. I routinely walk into the crosswalk in front of superstore because I'm tired of waiting for drivers to "remember" who has the right of way.  
 
Here's a secret for anyone going to Superstore in a personal vehicle. You'll have much better luck finding a parking spot if you take ANY entrance other than the one at 9th and Vic. There is NO reason to drive past the store front before you park to go in. If your reasoning is to find a close spot with this route than you are probably just being lazy.

maybe they have handicap parking, so they go to the front of the store.

.....of all this is, either one could have slowed, lost no more than a couple of moments doing this simple act, and gone on with their day.  
 
Instead, there are two angry people and I'm almost certain the extra stress involved has shortened both their lives by considerably more moments that it would have taken to show that minuscule little bit of humanity. Sheesh!

this really proves that we have become a "me,me" society. Sad that this incident even took place.

you posted a story and we are making comments on it, maybe you are completely right and the lady was out to lunch but you are so defensive you didnt even see i agreed with you "it does sound like this driver didnt want to wait" apparently we should all respond like mightyquinn2 and make everyone happy but that wouldn't end up with a great discussion and the lady probably would have less chance of seeing the thread along with everyone else you wanted to educate  
 
my point since you missed it, is that drivers are stuck at these types of crossings (maybe not in your case but lots of times) and that is why some drivers act badly, some pedestrians (not you) are also selfish and cant wait for a break in traffic, what can you do but try to ignore ignorance and shrug it off

I was simply trying to clarify that there was no reason for that lady to act the way she did other than she was either in a hurry or just selfish.
