Hello, EBRANDON. My wife and I moved into an acreage this year, and are hearing different advice on how people generally heat their water pump houses. What do you find to be the most successful? We have heard that an insulated pump house can get away with just 100 light bulbs, and some say use a baseboard heater. What seems to be the best way to keep the pump and lines from freezing up?

we used a 100w light bulb that lasted several lol, it never gets turned off and the fluctuation in power is what usually burns them out

What is the floor area of your pump house and what is the R factor of your insulation. I was told that with a R40 roof and R28 walls you need around 10 watts per sq. ft. of floor area. We heat different pump houses in different ways, one larger one we use a 4800 watt heavy duty construction heater with a backup baseboard set at a lower tempature, a smaller one we use a baseboard with backup space heaters.

How do you find the oil filled heater to be for efficiency (I.E. is it more energy efficient or less energy efficient than light bulbs)? If you don't mind my asking, how much is the typical cost per month to heat with oil filled?

Pop Can solar heater. At the moment I am building one out of the downspouts that you use on eaves. Not sure if it will heat the pump house enough 24/7 but it should replace the bulk of the time required to heat the room from what I have read .

my area is small,3ft x 2ft x 2 1/2 ft.

I think its pretty efficient.All I know is that it has never let me down

We might be using the older baseboard heater in the pump house for now. I am assuming I should be running it starting tomorrow, now that the bad weather will be starting Wednesday?
