Has anyone bought a gift card in Canada and used it in the U.S. ? We are thinking of buying ether a Walmart gift card or a prepaid MasterCard and sending it to sister who lives in New York! But not sure how it would work for her to use it and if the amount (ex $50) would still be just that when she goes to use it.

 
Good to know: If the gift card you received was purchased from a Canadian store, that gift card can only be used at Walmart Canada locations. Likewise, gift cards purchased from a U.S. location can only be used at Walmart U.S. stores.

I was given a Visa Gift Card issued in the US and I used it in Canada. I wonder if a Canadian Visa gift card might be good in the US as well..

I have been told the Canada Post prepaid visas work in the States. I do know the gift cards work online so they should work there too.

i know you probably mean well but most GC dont work across the border leaving you to either drive across the line to buy or just use an etransfer, which i believe you can do now to the USA, I have the same issue and honestly because of shipping ect all we ended up doing was passing GC back and forth helping out the postal service but in the end didnt end up feeling like a gift so now we only exchange gifts when we see each other and then i buy a larger gift as i dont buy often and we save our money for phone calls, maybe it wont work for you but thats what we chose to do

Check the small print on the card. You might need a magnifying glass!  
 
"If your gift card states Valid only in the United States on the front, your issuer has issued a Domestic Use Only card. Although your gift card will not be accepted at locations outside of the United States, it's welcome at millions of locations within the U.S. where Visa Debit cards are accepted. "
