Wonder what kind of gift is right for elderly friends .  
we want to get the neighbors some thing but not sure what to get , looking for some ideas .  
any help would be great .

Invite them to your place for a meal. Or purchase some gift certificates to their favourite restaurant or gift certificates to restaurants that deliver. Give them "coupons" that they can "redeem" from your family for shovelling snow(aka, someone in your family shovels snow for them), mowing lawns, weeding gardens, monthly baking items, car drive out to a fowl supper. Take them to a concert.

a box of homemade or store bought cookies. Lap blankets (made from fleece) they often find winters chilly even in the house. A gift card that says you will shovel their snow for a given period of time as a gift. A nice bottle of wine (with or without alcohol) How nice of you to think of your elderly neighbors ....MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOURS

just to sit and have a visit with them and listen to their stories, sometimes that means more than a gift.

M&M's freezer meals or meals made from you and packaged in tin foil containers from dollar stores  
 
Goodies baked, specialty teas and coffees, put in gift basket  
 
Lap blankets, cozy pants, slippers, booties with grip, nice scarves  
 
Gift cards to restaurants, grocery stores or meals on wheels  
 
Gift certificate to a house cleaner  
 
Fruit basket ...I think Courtney's cupcakes does them  
 
Beautiful flower arrangement from bloom box  
 
Thoughtful card with nice note and offers to drive them to appointments, stores, etc  
 
Visits with them  
 
Books, word puzzle books, all with big lettering  
 
New pillows. (Something my grandpa never buys himself but always wants)

Lotto tix (again, my grandpas fav lol )  
 
Time spent with them

Doesn't mean that their tastes, avocations, or interests change. Heck - buy them a bottle of Bailey's, a racy book, a video game, a movie pass, a tennis racket. Look at what they like now, and try to syncronize the gift. For me - make the gift cheap and impractical - I want a surprise and a laugh.

a few different things. I used to make candy every year, and would do up a candy box for them. I've also made them in those "tin foil" pans something like a shepherd's pie (since a number are still in love with meat and potato meals) that they can either eat now or freeze for later - those were a hit! I've also given gift certificates to a restaurant they frequent. Generally I've found that they appreciate the smallest of gesture rather than the gift itself.

A lady that I work with makes fleece mitts that are reversible. Very cute and she has a lot of selection. I got a few pairs for Christmas gifts. She charges $10, she also has a lot of fleece blankets which are also a great gift for the elderly as a nice lap blanket. If you pm me your number I will give it to her.

Is usually the most valuable gift. Take a basket of goodies and spend the afternoon. It will brighten up their day and maybe you will learn something from their stories.
