I haven't seen much about this year's Winter Festival, is there even going to be one?

The official website seems to offer no information, and might be abandoned....

I'm inclined to think that maybe not? According to my husband, he read somewhere that it was no longer the Lt Governor's Festival, that the name couldn't be used anymore. He didn't know why.

The Facebook page also hasn't had any updates since Feb 1st 2015.

Not sure about all the pavilions.

However, I take Irish and Highland Dancing and will be dancing at both the Irish and Scottish pavilions. My Highland dance teacher also has some students performing at the English pavilion so those three for sure are happening. My understanding is that the Lieutenant Governor is no longer involved though.

at the city's website and seen nothing. Strange. Isn't it the city that puts the event on?

Its less than a month away, you would think info would he readily accessable. As for it no longer being the Leiutenant Governors Festival, I saw in the paper or another thread that they droped the name beacause the Lieutenant Governor can't attend this year. I dont see why that would require changing the name though. Maybe they have pulled their sponsorship or something? It would he nice to hear from somebody who knows for sure, cuz it seems fishy.

As a sponsor of this fabulous event - I know for a fact the event is indeed ON. Running January 28,29 & 30, 2016. It is a transition year as they incorporate to achieve non-for-profit status.

We were told the website will be updated just after the holidays. Im sure it we will be like last year. Updates were made on a continuing basis leading up to the event. All information will be made available on www.lgwf.ca

Just like last year, we were told promotion will begin over the next few weeks. It's hard to compete with the Holidays

Thanks For or all your interests and excitement - thats the whole reason we are involved too :-)

This event had always previously been in February had it not? The new date is a very poor choice. Dakota nation winterfest is on those dates as well. Difficult to enjoy both events.

I wish they did it like Moose Jaw. All the pavillions are in the same park for the summer weekend. You buy a $10 passport and you have access to all the pavillions all at once. All the food is still sold by each nationality and every hour a different nationality takes to the stage and shows their dances, talents, etc. It's a one stop shop. I understand we have ours in the winter but we have the keystone that could accomodate everyone quite easily and no one needs to drive around and stand outside. You pay for your passport, get in and stay the night. You can have all the samples of food you'd like and eat them all at the same time. Just my thoughts.

Hi there,

Does anyone know if the bus service between stalls will be running this Saturday 30th?!

My friend has just informed me that she heard on star fm that they aren't putting on this service.

of volunteers, good venues to hold the event and the dropping of the LT.Govenor title has this festival going down hill fast. 13 plus venues some years now at 8.
Reminds me of the pickle fest in the summer, big sponsor Bick's pulled out and it died!

Metis Pavilion

There will be a Metis Pavilion at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium on Friday & Saturday (29th & 30th).

Friday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Always lotsa fun and interesting displays, great Metis food and music/performers!

Hope ya'll are able to come out and enjoy!

A good Q & A that committee chair Richard Bruce did with the Journal for this week's paper is at the link below. Someone asked the question above re the Lt Governor. From the interview its seen as a natural outgrowth of the festival. Does give the impression that the Lt Gov may still be involved in some capacity:

The weather into this weekend is supposed to be close to zero which should make for a great chance to check things out!
