the story in the bdn sun. The love of a Mother for her child! Her strength in climbing up to the road after all the injuries she suffered! Thank God that both made it thru their terrible ordeal and good thing that driver seen that something was amiss and went back to check and help!

I know in Alberta when I lived there I was able to claim my ambulance bill through my auto insurance.

The go fund me was put up from our community to help out a young mother who in our eyes is a hero! Mpi may put out money but we all know they are not going to hand out the money asap.. kristen and her daughter have a long road ahead and will need all the emotional and financial support they can get.. who cares why the gofundme was set up or where the money is going towards.. if you don't want to help an amazing strong woman who saved her daughters life despite having broken ribs, arms and neck then move along....

There will be a lot of expenses for this family in the months ahead. I'm sure that she will need someone to stay with her in Winnipeg while in the hospital. Hotel rooms are over $120 a night, plus meals, gas, parking....the list goes on and on! I'm sure this family could use some money upfront before MPI gets it together and starts to cover expenses! Hopefully she makes a quick recovery!

What a will to survive and keep her wee girl safe. Prayers for Kristen and Avery. Wishing them a full recovery. Bless all the people who stopped to help them.  
From what I've read, Mom's a single parent and won't be going back to work anytime soon...so I think the Go Fund Me page money will come in very handy for these folks.

I was in tears reading this in the sun today. What an amazing woman. I'm sure we all would do what was needed for our children but I can't imagine what she had to go through. I'll be adding what I can to the gofundme account for them. I wish them the very best and thank goodness the woman saw her and stopped or this would have been a different story altogether.

This mother almost lost her life to save her child and we have some who are questioning the gofundme set up for her, kiddos to whoever set this up , I can't even fathom what she and her daughter have gone through, and will have to endure in the days ahead! I hope and pray that all goes well in her recovery! And to the lady that stopped to help bless your heart!

Amazing actions by this mother!  

I am very sympathetic to the situation, and agree that mom is a hero, and miracles happened, and I do wish both a full recovery.  
 
That being said...I expect to get attacked just like everyone else who has asked the question: what is the fundraising for? I noticed the goal amount has now been upped to $25K. (note that I'm not screaming scam- just asking for clarification.)  
 
I think that having a clear idea posted as to what the money being raised would be going to would be great. Is it covering day to day? Education fund? Emergency dental work? I for one would be more inclined to donate if I knew what $25K+ would be supporting. Two posts have been made on the page, and no info has been offered. I think it is only reasonable to ask, especially since it sounds like most of the major costs will be covered by MPI.

And honestly it doesn't matter to most people what it will be used for...the Go Fund Me title is Kristen and Avery Recovery Fund and it will be used how the family sees fit...that is all that matters...

Since this young single mother probably will not be returning to work for quite awhile, there will be expenses such as rent, hydro & usual bills that will need paid. Also when her & her daughter return home there will be groceries to buy & whatever else people need on a regular basis. There will be travel expense for her caregivers while mom & child are in hospital. Also there will be help needed when they return home. Most likely they will have numerous appointments to get to in wpg or Brandon after they are out of hospital. Since MPI will cover some expense it won't likely be immediate. It's a long road of recovery for both of them.

I have payed attention to the comments, and while everyone has offered some great thoughts as to what the money COULD be used for, it still doesn't tell me the answer as to what it WILL be used for.  
 
I'd rather donate knowing that I'd be contributing to the healing of the family vs the gas/lodging for an aunty or other family member to visit.

Are you really that out of touch with reality...have you actually lived in this world? Get a life and realize it costs money to live. Who cares what they use the money for...they need support and I would say they don't need it from someone that is so concerned about controlling what they do with it. You have very narrow minded thinking. Move along to some other conversation. As Canadian people it is our privilege to help people in need without needing to have all the answers. Do for others what you would like someone to do for you.

First of all Kristen is amazingly brave and in our heart for the months ahead.  
As far as what the money is going to the reason we say "could" be going to is because we are not in that situation they are so the costs that go with it are unknown to us. However Kristen has rent and hydro and a phone and bills just like the rest of us. Those things will not be paid by MPI and even if they do it would be months before they do! Plus there's people who live 3 hours away that are sitting by her side and averys side. Those caregivers have to pay 10.00 a day for parking plus meals , hotel cost and they are taking time off work. So having all of those expenses it's likely they can't afford to pay her bills at the moment. You all keep questioning the amount but in this day and age 25 000 really isn't an unrealistic amount. And the 200 plus people who are donating don't care how the money is spent as long as it's helping that family deal with the heartbreaking accident. Any one of us would be so great full for this help. Kristens injuries are extensive she's going to have an extremely long road ahead of her. And little averys going to be starting kindergarten so there's the cost of clothes and school supplies and shoes. It all adds up. There's so much and I'm so proud of our community and the surrounding areas for stepping up to make life a bit easier for these 2 and their family's.  
I understand the worry of donating to gofundme pages. If your uncomfortable send your prayers and well wishes and move on. I've done it times before, people's kind words can do wonders for this family also.

As for questioning ANY gofundme account....I think this is normal and acceptable and shouldn't be answered with such defensiveness. People are being kind and generous and have every right to ask polite questions in regard to where their money is going and what it will be used for. If you don't care and want to donate that is great but don't make others feel bad just because they want more info before donating. Most people just don't have tons of cash to give away and want to make sure they're donating to something that they agree with. That's their right.  
 
Sometimes the answers to the questions are so rude and defensive, it actually turns me off from donating to the cause and it's the cause that looses out. When asking for FREE money, be prepared to answer questions in a professional manner....JMHO

In a case like this there can be many hidden monetary expenses. Missing work, for victim and family alike. Travel for family. Hotels, meals, months of travel for medical follow up, physio, rehab, etc. I don't think anyone will profit in a case like this if you give money.

Think The money is to show this brave young woman that she lives in the community and surrounding communities of caring people that support her emotionally financially and in whatever way she may need. The emotional support that she receives is priceless however many of us who have financial worries know how nice it would be to have that burden take it off you if only for a little while. I admire her strength and I also admire the people that give what they can  

The young Mom and her daughter live in Southwestern Manitoba. They are recovering in Winnipeg and who knows for how long? It's a long road here in both recovery and distance to the family home.  
 
Put your sister, mother, daughter, brother, father, son, etc. In this same tragic situation. If a friend set up a go fund me page, would this not relieve a burden for you and your family with all that's ahead for your loved one? If you think you can handle that on your own or if you're independently wealthy, all the power to you.  
 
Manitobans are a generous bunch and they've stepped up to help. Anyone who questions it should think about their own family or just turn the other cheek and not comment.  
 
Kudos to all that assisted this Mom and young child. You are to be commended for noticing and assisting. It's very heartwarming.

it is amusing to hear folks that are wondering why anyone would need this money MPI will be paying everything. These are clearly people that have never had much to do with MPI. Make no mistake MPI will pay less than what the true costs are.

I really hope for the best possible outcome for this family but you also said what i was going to say  
 
Torque only asked a simple question and it was the replies that made me go hmmm, Im sure there are lots of expenses not covered and the support shown by the community hopefully helps just as much as the little bit of cash in the gofundme account but the friend that started the page shouldnt be offended or defensive answering a few questions, for all we know Torque or anyone else might run a charity or something with a mandate and they were asking to see if this fit so they could give more, or who knows what other reasons a donator may want some info, info and questions really should never be met with hostility imo the response can really make or break the support and this family defiantly will need all the support they can get, both financial and emotional
