2% hotel tax for Brandon?

As per last night's city council meeting, this is going to be considered for our city.
On one side you could say that other cities are doing it and that it would bring extra revenue into the city. On the other one might suggest we find other ways of trimming expenses/bringing in money.
On a personal front, even though I don't think 2% would deter people from visiting the city I have a hard time justifying making visitors to the city pay the extra tax just for the right to stay in a hotel room here.
What do others think?
