Just got off the phone with a gentleman who's first language is definatly not English. He was very hard to understand. He was offering me a wonderful deal, he could lower the interest rate on my credit card. I asked him which card and he told me Visa. He then asked me the expiration on date on my card. I told him if he gave me my account number and which financial institution my card was on I would gladly answer his questions. He then asked me to turn my card over and tell him the 1 800 number on it. I told him if he was legitimately from the company that held my card he would know that number. Then he asked which bank my card was with, again told him if he was legit he would have that information. I also told him that I am not in the habit of handing out personal banking information to call centres. He told me that expiration dates were not private info as they as right on the front of the card. I told him my account number was on the front of the card as well and it is personal info. He tried another angle but I wouldn't give him any info. At this time I handed the phone to a three year old who said, hi daddy. When are you coming home? That got rid of annoying man. I know I could of hung up on him at the beginning but some days you just need to have a little fun.

My senior Mom got the same call. I am so glad she didn't fall for it. People who try to scam like that really tick me off. Seniors on a low income or people who are cognitively impaired can be screwed over really badly. I really hope that Karma gives those scammers what they deserve.

Mine told me I could get a lower lifetime rate! Below 6%! (Um, right now I'm at 4%, why would I do that?) So I said "Yeah? Which bank?" He said the wrong one and I replied "Ding! Ding! Ding! You LOSE!" I don't think he likes me very much judging from the name he called me. :-)

I just say that I don't care what the interest rate is as I don't owe anything on my card.

I just about never answer my land line any more. Probably 90% of the incoming calls are something of this nature.  
 
You can pretty much expect any 1-866, 1-888, or any other un-recognizable area code to be one of these. Even calls that call display identifies as, for example, "CIBC" isn't really CIBC.  
 
I normally just turn the ringer off, don't answer' or as some of us like to do, play along for a while & make them yell & swear at you!
