We recently moved in to a house on a busy section of 9th near Richmond. Last night around 3 AM someone pounded on our side, front, then back doors of the house. By the time I was awake up upstairs to see what was going on I could see someone in the back yard moving towards a vehicle in the back lane.  
 
We have heard stories of other homes in the neighborhood being invaded and I'm wondering if we had a close call last night.  
 
Was there maybe a police hunt for someone? Has anyone in the area had a similar experience?

I forgot to mention that there were approx size 12 work boot style marks in the yard this morning.

Perhaps it could have been connected to the former resident(s) of the house? For example, a drunk "buddy" looking for a place to crash, who didn't know they no longer live there?

It was a few years ago. I had just moved into a home in the east end. It was about 3AM and someone was going around tapping on all the windows then started banging on the front door! I answered the door with a "tool". The young man wad mildly intoxocated and I told him if he tries to come in he was going to loose some blood and that he should leave the property. Has not happened again. As Roosevelt once said, "speak softly and carry a big stick."

We live on 8th near neelin & have had this happen twice... The second time it's like they were trying to get in. Both times however they ran off before I could get a good look at them. Will most definitely will be investing in a heavy baseball bat to keep by the door soon as it's starting to freak me out..

Where we used to live (in another quiet community) there was a real problem with break and enters, although these usually happened in the daytime. The perpetrators would knock on the windows and then try the doors. Lots of people were robbed this way because many people still leave their doors unlocked. If no one answered, they would enter the home and just grab whatever they thought they could sell on the street fast and then dash away. But these tended to happen in the daytime...

Phone the police when they do it next immediately so they can bring the dogs in to track them down so they charge the little.....Well you fill in the blank...

I'm thinking it was just that, someone at 3 AM after the bar looking for a place to crash. We have been here only since November so that's what I would like to think happened. Definitely a little unnerving given how hard they were pounding.

We live just of Richmond as well and this has happened a couple times. One person even tried the door in the middle off the night. Neighbours have woken to find a person sleeping in their shed. When the weather is nice there is lots of walking traffic during the wee hours. We double check the doors are locked when we go to bed for the night and installed motion sensor lights. Another neighbor called the police when someone was pounding and yelling at their door.

We're on park street by 7th and this happened last week. Someone tried to open our door in front which was locked. Brandon has not been good to us over the last year since we've moved. We will probably be moving in the next year. Cops didn't offer much help when we called them.
