I get that each and every home is different. Some have natural gas hi- eff furnaces and new hot water tanks. Some have different square footage, some have old or new windows or different insulation. Some have electric baseboard heating.  
 
I'm just curious as to what people are shelling out per month for gas and hydro with a new or older home, square footage, recent insulation, furnace or windows, renos that are supposedly adding R value, etc.  
 
This seems to be the only industry that's a crap shoot with so many variables.  
 
 

How many people in a house also makes a huge factor. I have 1200 sq ft newer construction and since my divorce where the people factor went from 3 to 1,meaning a lot less laundry and showers, my bill has gone from $180 monthly average to $135. All electric. Forced air furnace.

Yes, that's another very important factor. Thanks for bring that up.

2000 sq ft house from 1977, gas furnace from 95 and gas water tank from 2006  
 
Plus a 1000 square foot detached garage I keep at 19  
 
300 a month during the winter summer is like 100 or so but ac runs non stop due to a ton of south facing windows  
 

Just over 1000 sq ft house built in 50's ish, 2 adults, 1 child, old windows, furnace in 2008 and water tank in 2013, window a/c that only is on when we are home and only does a few rooms, on average $200 a month for the two (gas & hydro).

A 1800 sq ft, fifty-six year old house mostly original, extra insulation in attic, but with still with some aluminum sliders, an never used wood fireplace and an twenty year old outdoor hot tub (running all year), plus two older fridges and a standing freezer that's occupied by a young family of five. The monthly gas (50 gal. HW & High Eff. forced air) is $168.00 and electric is $110.00.  
 
Our house is the "poster child" of drafty and heat loss, but I still think it's still not yet worth it to spend over seventy to eighty grand to finish replacing the windows, strapping new insulation on the outside (plus refinishing the exterior), and re-insulating the basement. If I wanted to save a few bucks... I'd get rid of the hot tub and the fridge in the basement.

your upgrades seem pretty high, even tho your house is big, did you get a quote done for the upgrades?  
 
also MB hydro always has lots of programs on for upgrades, years ago we did re insulate, re side and put all new windows in as well as insulate the basement, Mb hydro ended up paying us a few hundred dollars by the time we were done plus we saved on our bill, we did do the work ourselves tho so that makes a huge difference, the program is still available last i looked too  
 
depends on the type of house you have you maybe don't have to reside the house, sometimes you are able to blow in insulation to the attic and walls, just an idea to look into if you want

My gas bill decreased more with the changing out of most windows, pre ' 74, and new doors at all three entrances than when we finally upgraded the furnace, pre 1980.  
This is 100+ year old house in university area. You really need to stop all the drafts before you start saving energy.

1500 sq ft main floor was a total remodel in 99. Upstairs is original. Stucco exterior. New windows in 06. Mid efficient furnace  
Last 3yrs hydro and gas together on the budget has been 100.00 a month. This winter was an exception as far as cold is concerned , but the equalization payment has been less than the hundred bucks a month Each year  
 
 
 

we have a 1000 sq foot house. We recently did our basement with the syrofoam insulation, than the pink insulation. We have a higher R rating in there now.. just unsure of the exact numbers. our windows are crap, and we are pretty sure that the upstairs insulation needs to be redone. But we pay $161 a month on the budget plan for both gas and hydro. We have a newer hot water tank, and our furnace is at least early 2000's.
