It's tick season as usual. What do you recommend for protection? For adults, children 7 & 6 years old and pets?

Pets - use a medicine from the vet. Easy and stops them from bringing them in the house. I use advantix for my dog and I haven't seen any ticks on her for the past few years.  
 
Kids- check them diligently when they come in from playing. We've had 2 so far on them. My sons hadn't bit yet but my daughter had one the other day on her neck under her hair that we didn't catch. Yuck. I hate them!

diluted in a spray bottle for humans. Spray runners, pant legs, socks etc. Our dog had a very bad reaction to Advantix so I am leary to use a tick treatment on him.

Apparently Avon is suppose to a spray that is good for pets and people

Pets - talk to your vet. Have used advantix for many years. This year vet recommended a chewable once a month medication called NexGard. Haven't seen a tick since.  
 
For us, just shower/check when being in grassy or treed areas.

Is a chewable tablet given every 3 months. Ticks & fleas die after biting treated dog. It is a relatively new product so could be somewhat controversial. We treated our 2 large dogs. Will cost close to $100./dog for the season (May-Nov) but sure is convenient: no more daily checks. Got from our Vet.

I put a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in my dogs water dish! Keeps the ticks and fleas away!

to use while farming is a product called  
Croc Bloc,has the highest percentage of deet in it,spray on and you wont see a tic for 100 miles,they hate it. we worked in long grass out by fields,works excellent,never had one on me,

Tea Tree Oil directly on the ankles works amazing for us. avoid wearing black clothing as they seem to like it...

We switched from the drops to the chewable this year and love it! It is given once a month during tick season. We were camping and they were so bad you could see them swarming up your leg 5 at a time and we haven't picked a single tick off our dogs!

Go to the vet clinic and get the pill for ticks. Don't get the drops: they don't work. The pill will make them shrivel up before they become too attached. Works great!

Bravecto is a chewable tablet that is taken once and works for 3 months. The tick needs to take a blood meal in order to die and this is a pres:cription product  
Advantix is the drop that is placed on multiple places on your dogs back right on the skin. Comes in a pack of 4, one tube a month and this is not pres:cription. This is a repellent  
Revolution another pres:cription product. 1 tube lasts 1 month and needs to be place on the dogs skin as well.  
Tick collars.  
Nexxguard is a chewable tablet, believe is is pres:cription as well and only lasts 1 month
