I recently moved to Brandon and am currently staying with close family while looking for a non-shared apartment for myself in the $500-$600 range. Currently I'm renting out a room at my family's place, but this is to be a short-term thing. So far it's been quite the struggle finding the ideal place for myself, although so far I've really only checked online for places.  
 
eBrandon seems like a good place for classifieds but are there other good sources for apartment rentals? Does the Brandon Sun tend to have places up for rent that aren't listed here on eBrandon? Because, if so, I guess I'll have to start buying the paper every Saturday.  
 
At this point I'm becoming somewhat discouraged. Would be much appreciated if someone could offer tips and such, or if anyone knows of places up for rent that aren't listed anywhere.

I have been looking for almost 3 months now with a budget of $750 or less and I have found maybe a dozen apartments in that price range.  
You may have to look outside of Brandon I've noticed that the rural towns around Brandon have more reasonable rental rates and you get more for your money as well. Just search by individual town on ebrandon at the bottom of the page when on rent classifieds page also try kijiji and the Brandon sun has an online page for classified ads as well just Google it.

Try rosser gardens, 678/mo, well managed, security locks, other than that not much out there.

I think you will have to pay a little more as Brandon is moderately expensive. landlords have only seen their costs go up (High taxes, increasing insurance costs and maintenance. I would be very surprised if you can find anything suitable at that price. I truly wish you good luck.

I just can see that as an option unless someone is giving you money for gas and wear and tear on a vehicle. That could be an additional $300 plus per month and maybe more now that fuel prices are escalating.

In places that are one bedroom rentals for around $600-700 price range, last one was $610 with heat and water and parking space i:ncluded, very reasonable, wasn't the newest but in a safe area and was well kept, you just can't be expecting a new condo or townhouse feel for the price range you are looking in. I find people don't really state what they are expecting for $600 and they get let down when it's not some fancy hardwood new appliance condo-looking place. Just be realistic and you'll find something in no time!

have more success looking at lower level or basement suites in private homes, as opposed to apartment blocks price wise anyway.

Going tothe 7th st access center or to the provincial building and ask for an affordable housing list. Then call the landlords to see if they have anything. Ill pm you with a couple names of who not to rent from because of bugs.

99% sure you will not find a place for that much in brandon if you're planning on renting by yourself. If you do it is going to be very small and I'm guessing not very livable.  
But if you do find anything let me know. It would be nice lol.

Pretty much impossible

I'm paying $670 for a two bedroom with in suite washer/dryer, a/c that I never need, fenced in small patio, one parking spot with plug in, and lots of storage! I pay hydro! Water is i:ncluded! It's well located near the Keystone which makes it close to shopping and groceries in the south end!  
 
It's an older apartment but has brand new carpet, linoleum, and paint! It took a while to find but if you keep asking around and looking, you can find nice apartments that are reasonably priced! Compare this to my last two apartments: a new one bedroom that was cramped and sitting on a train crossing for $710 per month plus hydro: and a rat hole of a basement suite that was 1/3 of a basement with a shared bathroom and laundry for $500 per month!

Only 630 plus hydro for a 2 bedroom. They are out there.

South of Argyle Courts on 26th, I heard apartments there are very reasonable. $600-800. Also try Willowdale and Ashgrove across from 7eleven. They range in price from 6 something and up. Decent suites. Contact www.sussexrealty.ca who also manage Alexandra and Strathcona blocks on 10th.  
 
Also (I think its called) Greenwood Square is about 1400 block of 22nd St also is within reasonable budget. 2 bedrooms for just over $700 ish.

@JustaRegular — I'm just about the least fussy person ever when it comes to apartments. Pretty much all I require is running water, hydro and no pests. I absolutely don't require anything fancy and would not be so bothered even if I managed to find a rather drab place. Now I may be fussy when it comes to lots of things and I admit it would be preferable to have a nice place to a drab one. But, really, I'm not nearly as fussy as most other people when it comes to apartments.

@MikeD. — I asked someone in 'real life' about Rosser Gardens and they told me they're indeed great apartments (however, I somehow can't find anything about them online. Anyone know if they're the apartments now known as 'The Towers'?). Even though they're a bit over my budget, they sound promising. I'll have to look into them some more.  
 
@FreeCycler — someone mentioned Argyle Courts to me right after I asked them about Rosser Gardens. Looks like I'll also have to look into them and Willowdale and Ashgrove. Thanks! Looks like I'll be making quite a few calls on Monday . . .

Rosser Gardens is still what it is called. They are located on 26th Street just north of Rosser Avenue.  
 
They are rarely renting and when they do the advertisement is in the Brandon Sun.
