All you brandon history buffs have an investigation on your hands, what was located at this location on Macdonald avenue? Why was these Skeletal remains left at this location?
Brandon Police are investigating the discovery of human remains in the 3000 block of Macdonald Avenue.
Sergeant Rod Koscielny says a crew from J & R Excavating was digging up a plot of land Tuesday afternoon when the skeleton was uncovered.
"As a result, we've made contact with the medical examiners office," he says. "We've secured everything and we're treating it as a crime scene."
Koscielny notes it's impossible to speculate on how long the remains have been buried.
"Hopefully the pathologist can help us out with a time line," he adds. "We're preparing to do a sort of archaeological dig to remove the skeletal remains and any additional evidence we uncover."
J & R co-owner Jason Hayden was the first person to notice the remains, and he says it was a shocking experience.
"I took a scoop with the machine, dumped my bucket, then spun around and took another and noticed this orange round thing sitting on top of the dirt pile," he says. "I didn't know what it was, so I just went with the bucket and touched it, and it spun around and I saw the front of it and realized what it was."
Forrest-based Adriel Construction is overseeing work on the property.
Owner Tyler Ursel says he feels bad for Hayden.
"He didn't even really notice it at first," he notes. "I think he thought it was a rock, and he spun it around... and it was just looking at him."
Sergeant Koscielny says the on-scene investigation will likely take several days to complete.
